Man Taken To Hospital After Truck Crash Near Sanborn

Sanborn AmbulanceSanborn, Iowa — A Clarion, Iowa man was transported to the Sanford Sheldon Medical Center following a 2-truck crash near Sanborn Tuesday afternoon.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, the accident happened about 2:15 pm Tuesday when a 1997 International Dump Truck, driven by 36-year old Joshua Biery of Paullina was westbound on Highway 18.  Troopers say Biery attempted to make a left turn across traffic onto Polk Avenue, when the dump truck was struck from behind by a westbound 2007 GMC truck, driven by 53-year old Kevin Lehman of Clarion.

Troopers say Lehman was extricated from the vehicle, and taken to Sanford Sheldon Medical Center by the Sanborn Ambulance, with what troopers describe as suspected non-incapacitating injuries.

Damage to Biery’s dump truck was estimated at about $500, while Lehman’s GMC truck was totaled in the crash.

Troopers say the crash remains under investigation, and charges are pending.

Incidentally, law enforcement officers confirm that the dump truck and its driver in this accident (Joshua Biery) were also involved in a separate accident earlier that afternoon. Find that report here.


Semi Hits Deer

deer_sxc2Rock Valley, Iowa — A Boyden man’s semi-tractor was damaged after it struck a deer in the early morning hours of Tuesday, May 17th near Rock Valley.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office reports that at about 4:30 am, 53-year-old Bryan Watson of Boyden was driving a 2010 Peterbilt semi-tractor eastbound on Highway 18, two miles west of Rock Valley. According to the report, Watson struck a deer on the roadway.

The Peterbilt received $7500 damage.

No injuries were reported


Remsen Man Injured After Hitting Deer

Sioux Sheriff 84-8 FacebookOrange City, Iowa — A Remsen man was injured after hitting a deer near Orange City on Tuesday, May 17th.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office reports that at about 6:58 am on Tuesday, 41-year-old Steven Reiter of Remsen was driving a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado northbound on Jackson Avenue, four and one-half miles south of Orange City. According to the report, Reiter struck a deer on the roadway.

The Chevrolet received $3000 damage.

Reiter reported minor injuries and was transported by private vehicle to seek medical attention on his own


Man Taken To Hospital After Accident On Highway 60

Ashton, Iowa — A Sioux Falls man was taken to a hospital after an accident on Tuesday, May 17, 2016.

The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office reports that about 8:45 AM, 59-year-old Mark Trevett of Sioux Falls, SD, was driving a 2012 Ford Econoline van southbound on Highway 60 just south of Ashton.

He reported that glare from the sunshine on the windshield blinded him for a few seconds. The report says he failed to see a 2012 Kenworth driven by 68-year-old Glen Gerritson of Ireton. Gerritson had also been southbound directly in front of the van. The van rear-ended the semi.

The Osceola County Ambulance took Trevett to the Osceola Community Hospital in Sibley.

The van, which was owned by Wheelchair Express of Sioux Falls, sustained about $15,000 in damage. The semi trailer, owned by Huebner Trucking of Hawarden received about $5000 damage, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Trevett was cited on a charge of Following Too Closely.

The Ashton Fire Department and the Iowa State Patrol assisted on the scene.


Domestic Violence Call Leads To High Speed Chase

Police lightbar chaseO’Brien County, Iowa — A Cherokee man faces several charges following a domestic violence report that ended in a high speed chase Saturday night.

According to authorities, about 8:20 Saturday evening (May 14th), the O’Brien County Communications Center received a report of an individual who was threatening family members in the Sutherland area.

According to authorities, Sheriff’s officers and Sutherland Police were dispatched to the Sutherland area, and reportedly discovered the suspect in a family vehicle.  When officers attempted to make contact, the suspect fled in the vehicle with officers in pursuit, according to police.

Sheriff’s officials say that, with the assistance of Sanborn Police & Iowa State Patrol Troopers, Stop Sticks were deployed near 350th & Silver Avenue. Authorities say the suspect vehicle hit the Stop Sticks, and for a short time the vehicle was running on a rim.  According to the Sheriff’s Office, the suspect was eventually apprehended in Sanborn at Casey’s General Store.

Deputies say they arrested 27-year old Jeffrey Rohwer, of Cherokee, and charged him with OWI 2nd Offense , Felony Eluding, Domestic Abuse Causing Bodily Injury, Reckless Driving, Speeding (110 mph in a 55 mph zone), and two stop sign violations.  Authorities say the assault charge is a result of a family member sustaining a broken foot.

Officials say Rohwer was booked into the O’Brien County Jail on a bond totaling $10,000.


16-Year Old Faces Sexual Exploitation Charges

siouxsheriff2Hull, Iowa — A 16-year old Boyden male faces charges of Sexual Exploitation of a Minor, following an investigation that began last month.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office says the Boyden-Hull Jr/Sr High School in Hull reported that the teen, who is a student at the school, was allegedly found to be in possession of several inappropriate pictures of a juvenile female.  Authorities say that, upon further investigation, the Sheriff’s Office discovered that the juvenile female victim resides in New Mexico, and that the photos of her were allegedly kept by the student on a school computer.

The charges against the juvenile were filed last Friday, May 13th.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office School Resource Officer assisted in the investigation.
