Vehicle Rolls Over On Sheldon Street After Hitting Parked Car, Driver Flees

AccidentGeneric 2Sheldon, Iowa — A crash in the wee hours of Friday morning left two vehicles damaged, one of them laying on it’s side in the street, and no driver to be found.

Sheldon Police say they discovered the crash, in the 1100 block of 11th Street, at 1:41 am Friday, when they came upon a 2001 Dodge pickup on it’s side, blocking 11th Street, and a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee that had been propelled into a residential driveway.

Police say it appears that the pickup, which is owned by Joseph Wenthe of Sheldon, was traveling east on 11th Street at a high rate of speed, when it struck the Jeep, which was legally parked on the south side of 11th Street.  Officers say it appears that the force of the collision caused the pickup to roll onto it’s side in the street, and propelled the Jeep, which is owned by Jose Barron Colchado of Sheldon, into a residential driveway, where it came to rest after striking a tree.  Police say the driver of the pickup had fled the scene by the time they arrived.

Damage to each vehicle was estimated at $3,000.
