Man Escapes Injury When His Semi Strikes Cow

Sioux Sheriff Car 84-Maurice, Iowa — A Sioux Falls man escaped injury Monday (July 18th) afternoon when the truck he was driving hit a cow near Maurice.

Sioux County authorities say 34-year old Brian Huerkamp, of Sioux Falls, was driving a 2007 International semi‐truck southbound on Highway 75, three miles south of Maurice, when he struck a cow on the roadway.

Huerkamp was uninjured in the crash.  Damage to the semi was estimated at $4,000, and the cow had an estimated value of $1,200.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office investigated the accident.


Osceola Authorities Arrest Three On Alcohol Charges In 2 Incidents

osceolasheriffSibley, Iowa — Three individuals face alcohol-related charges in two separate incidents in Osceola County in recent days.

Two Estherville men were jailed Thursday (July 14th) in Sibley, following an investigation into a pair of suspicious males at the Ocheyedan Pits.  Osceola County authorities say 51-year old Parish James Reed, and 62-year old Wesley John Lyons, were both charged with Public Intoxication, a simple misdemeanor.  In addition, Lyons was reportedly charged with OWI, a serious misdemeanor.  Deputies say both men were booked into the Osceola County Jail in Sibley, with bond for Reed set at $300, and $1,300 for Lyons.

A Sheldon man was arrested Friday (July 15th) as the result of the investigation into the report of a suspicious male on Northwest Blvd in Sibley.  According to the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office, 24-year old Cory Allen Wright was booked into the Osceola County Jail on charges of Public Intoxication, a simple misdemeanor.


Lyon Deputies Cover Fender-Bender, Make Arrests

Lyon Sheriff Facebook HeaderLyon County, Iowa — The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office had a busy weekend, including a minor accident and numerous arrests.

Early Saturday afternoon, deputies were called to a two-vehicle accident in the parking lot at Slade’s Drive-In at Rock Rapids.  According to the report, the accident happened when 87-year old Priscilla Spykerboer, of Ellsworth, Minnesota, backed her 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer into a parked 2005 Cadillac SRX, owned by 63-year old Esther Masselink. of Edgerton, Minnesota.

Damage to the Masselink Cadillac was estimated at $1,500, while Spykerboer’s Trailblazer sustained an estimated $800 damage.  No injuries were reported.

Also on Saturday, a Lyon County Deputy conducted a traffic stop of a vehicle for an equipment violation.  Authorities say that, during the course of the traffic stop the deputy discovered open alcohol containers.  As a result of the stop, deputies say 20-year old Devin Hoekstra of Ocheyedan, was charged with Person Under Legal Age in Possession of Alcohol.  Cops say he was also served with a .02 administrative violation.  The report also states that two passengers in the vehicle were also cited for having open alcohol containers.

On Sunday, July 17th, the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office says their deputies made contact with people camping in Island Park.  During the contact deputies say they discovered alcohol, drugs, and drug paraphernalia.  As a result, they arrested an 18-year old Rock Rapids man, Dylan Robertson, on charges of Possession of a Controlled Substance, Possession of Alcohol Under Legal Age, both serious misdemeanors, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, a simple misdemeanor.  Authorities say that, during the incident, they also arrested 21-year old Paige Johnson of Luverne, Minnesota, on two counts of Supplying Alcohol to Persons Under Legal Age, and Possession of a Controlled Substance, all serious misdemeanors, along with Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, a simple misdemeanor.  Additionally, deputies say a 17-year old female from Rock Rapids was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Underage Possession of Alcohol.


Granville Man Arrested on Domestic Assault Charges

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office reports that they investigated a report of a domestic disturbance on Monday night, July 11th. The alleged assault is said to have occurred at a residence in Granville. Upon further investigation deputies discovered 27-year-old Byron Mazariegos‐Chavez of Granville allegedly assaulted a female at the residence

Two Arrested for Theft

Sioux Sheriff 84-8 FacebookRock Valley, Iowa — Two Rock Valley men were arrested on Monday, July 11th on charges of theft.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office reports that they had received complaints about diesel fuel being stolen from a farm west of Rock Valley.  Upon further investigation, deputies discovered that approximately 90 gallons of fuel were stolen on several occasions by 24-year-old Bryan Vargas and forty-four-year-old Cesar Vargas, both of Rock Valley.

Bryan Vargas and Cesar Vargas were arrested for theft.


South Dakota Teen Arrested At Casino

Lyon Sheriff Facebook HeaderLarchwood, Iowa — A South Dakota teen was arrested in Larchwood on Thursday, June 30th.

The Sheriff’s Office reports that on Thursday, June 30, 2016, 18-year-old Madisen M. White of Brandon South Dakota was arrested on charges of Possession of a Controlled Substance, a serious misdemeanor, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, a simple misdemeanor. According to the report, Lyon County deputies assisted in an investigation at the Grand Falls Casino with a casino DCI agent and South Dakota law enforcement officers in regards to illegal narcotics activity possibly in a motel room. During the course in the investigation, several subjects were identified along with vehicles involved.

Lyon County K-9’s were utilized and alerted on two vehicles involved.

This case is still under investigation.
