One Injured in Three Vehicle Accident

Lyon Sheriff Facebook HeaderGeroge, Iowa — A rural George man was injured in a three vehicle accident on Sunday, February 21st.

The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office reports that at about 8:49 am on Sunday, 37-year-old Timothy Blankespoor of George was driving a 1989 Buick 98 westbound on 210th Street, west of George. Seventeen-year-old Berry Nason of George was following Blankespoor in a 2006 Hyundai Tuscon. 18-year-old Tyler Minsaas of Canton, South Dakota was driving a 2005 Buick LeSabre behind Nason. According to the report, Blankespoor approached Ironwood Avenue he began to slow and signaled to turn south onto Ironwood. He was stopped on the roadway waiting for an eastbound vehicle to pass. The report continues that Nason did not see that Blankespoor had stopped, Nason ran off the road to the right into the north ditch to avoid Blankespoor. Minsaas was also not aware that Blankespoor was stopped waiting to turn and ran into the back end of Blankespoor.

Both Blankespoor’s and Minsaas’ vehicles were a total loss.

Blankespoor was transported to Sanford Rock Rapids by private vehicle for observation.

The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the George Fire and Rescue.


Harris Teen Rolls Vehicle

Osceola Sheriff Car 72-2Harris, Iowa — A Harris teen’s vehicle rolled on Wednesday, February 17th near Harris.

The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office reports that at about 8:27 pm on Wednesday, that 17-year-old Emily Jo Metzger of Harris was driving a 2001 Ford Ranger northbound on Yew Avenue, southeast of Harris. According to the report, Metzger lost control of her vehicle due to the road conditions, entered the west ditch, rolled over and came to rest on the wheels.

The Ford received $5000 damage.

No injuries were reported


Two Semis Hit Mirrors

sioux county sheriff emblemRock Valley, Iowa — The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office investigated a motor vehicle accident near Rock Valley on Tuesday, February 16th.

The Sheriff’s Office reports that at about 7:01 am on Tuesday, 55-year-old Michael Ebel of Ireton was driving a 2009 Sterling semi-tractor pulling a feed trailer northbound on Elmwood Avenue, two miles south of Rock Valley. Sixty-three-year-old Galen Drent of Hull was driving a 2003 Freightliner semi-tractor pulling a flatbed trailer southbound on Elmwood Avenue. According to the report, when the two met, their driver’s side mirrors struck.

The Sterling received $1500 damage; the Freightliner received $500 damage.

No injuries were reported.


Semi Turns Over

Osceola Sheriff Car 72-2A semi turned over on Tuesday, February 16th, reportedly due to icy conditions.

The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office reports that at about 7:00 am, 21-year-old Derek Van Wettering of Luverne, Minnesota was driving a 2007 Peterbilt semi, registered to New Vision Coop of Jeffers, Minnesota, eastbound on 100th Street. According to the report, Due to ice on the roadway the semi got onto the shoulder of the road where it then turned over on its side.

The Peterbilt received $20,000 damage.

No injuries were reported


Deputies Kept Busy With Pair Of Accidents

O'BrienSheriff obriensheriff O'Brien SheriffO’Brien County, Iowa — O’Brien County Deputies were kept busy with a pair of accidents Tuesday.

The O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office reports that at about 4:40 am on Tuesday, that 39-year-old Joshua Avery of Granville was driving a 2003 Ford F-150 northbound on Nettle Avenue, south of Sheldon. According to the report, Avery lost control of his vehicle due to road conditions, entered the west ditch and rolled.  The Ford received $3,114 damage.

Deputies say that at about 3:00 am, 34-year-old Andrew Britt of Remsen was southbound on Highway 59 south of Calumet in a 2015 Dodge Ram pickup. According to the report, Britt lost control due to the road conditions, entered the east ditch, rolling and coming to rest on the driver’s side.  The Dodge received $5,913 damage.

No injuries were reported in either accident.


Accident at Hull Intersection

sioux county sheriff emblemHull, Iowa — Two vehicles were damaged in an accident at a Hull intersection on Sunday, February 14th.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office reports that at about 12:41 pm on Sunday, that 19-year-old Brandon Statema of Rock Valley was driving a 1985 Chevrolet Cavalier southbound on Walnut Street in Hull. Twenty-three-year-old Kylie Miller of Hull was driving a 1999 Toyota Camry eastbound on 1st Street. According to the report, the accident happened when the two met in the intersection.

The Cavalier received $500 damage; the Toyota received $1800 damage.

No injuries were reported.
