Sheriff’s Office Seeks Driver In Crash

Sioux Center, Iowa — The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office is looking for the public’s help to find someone who they say fled the scene of an accident last Friday, April 1st.

They report that they investigated the crash that evening, about 9:30 PM. It happened on 400th Street, about a mile west of Sioux Center.

According to witness reports, a man was driving a green 1999 Pontiac Montana eastbound on 400th Street when it entered the north ditch and struck a field driveway. Witnesses reported the driver ran from the scene of the accident and he could not be located.

No injuries were reported to law enforcement.

The Pontiac sustained about $1,000 in damage.

The driver was described as a Hispanic male with a Mohawk-style haircut. He was reported to be wearing a dark coat and blue jeans.

If you know who was driving the Pontiac you are asked to contact the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office.

They say the Sioux Center Police Department assisted them.


Collision At Boyden Intersection

sioux county sheriff emblemBoyden, Iowa — Two vehicles were damaged at an intersection in Boyden on Wednesday, March 30th.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office reports that at about 1:22 pm, 51-year-old Daniel Lonneman of Ashton was driving a 2013 Chevrolet Silverado eastbound on Highway 18 in Boyden. Fifty-seven-year-old Brent Klaahsen of Rock Rapids was driving Chevrolet Colorado eastbound on Highway 18 following Lonneman. According to the report, Lonneman stopped for vehicles ahead of him who were waiting for traffic before turning onto Main Street when Klaahsen struck the Silverado on the roadway.

The Silverado received $1000 damage. The Colorado received $6000 damage.

No injuries were reported


Minnesota Man Faces Four Felony Charges In Osceola County

handcuffs - subject inSibley, Iowa — A Redwood Falls, Minnesota man faces four felony charges following an incident that happened in Ocheyedan in May, 2014.

The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office says 30-year old Ryan Rienstra allegedly used a torch to attempt entry into the building and a coin box at the car wash in Ocheyedan on May 16, 2014.

According to authorities, investigating officers located blood at the scene and allegedly linked the suspect through DNA submitted to the Iowa DCI Lab.  Deputies say Reinstra is charged with Criminal Mischief 2nd Degree, a Class D Felony, Attempted Burglary 2nd Degree, Class D Felony, and two charges of Arson 2nd Degree, Class C Felony.  He is currently being held in the Renville County, MN jail on unrelated charges, according to Osceola County authorities.


Ocheyedan Woman Hits Deer

Osceola Sheriff Car 72-2An Ocheyedan woman struck a deer on Wednesday, March 30th.

The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office reports that at about 8:05 pm on Wednesday, 57-year-old Roxann Mielke Leckband of Ocheyedan was driving a 2006 Ford Explorer southbound on Tanager Avenue. According to the report, Leckband struck a deer in the roadway.

The Ford received $2500 damage.

No injuries were reported


Orange City Man Taken To Hospital After Accident

Orange City, Iowa — An Orange City man was taken to the hospital after an accident on Saturday, March 26th, near Orange City.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office reports that just before 5 PM, 18-year-old Jerad Utesch of Orange City was driving a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado pickup eastbound on 430th Street, about a mile north of Orange City. They say 21-year-old Taylor Deegan of Orange City was driving a 1998 Oldsmobile Regency northbound on Ironwood Avenue. The vehicles collided in the intersection.

The Orange City Ambulance crew transported Deegan to the Orange City Health System Hospital. Utesch and a passenger, 19-year-old Trey Kroeze of Orange City sought medical attention on their own.

The Chevy pickup sustained about $14,000 in damages. The Oldsmobile sustained about $5,000 in
damage.

Utesch was cited on a charge of failing to yield to a vehicle on the right.

The Sheriff’s Office says the Orange City Ambulance crew and Orange City Fire Department assisted them.


Text-A-Tip Nabs Identity Thief

Olmeda-LiraRock Valley, Iowa — A Sioux Center man faces charges after a tip to the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office via their Text-A-Tip program.

According to authorities, on Tuesday, March 29, at 6:30 a.m., the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office arrested 23-year old Mario Olmedo-Lira, of Sioux Center.  Deputies say the arrest stemmed from the investigation into a report of an identity theft that occurred at Kooima Company in Rock Valley.

The investigation began, according to authorities, after Sheriff’s Office received information via their Text-A-Tip program.  Deputies say that, upon further investigation, it was discovered that Olmedo-Lira was illegally using a Texas resident’s identity to gain employment.

Olmedo-Lira was arrested for forgery and identity theft, according to the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office.
