Rock Valley Woman Backs Into Trailer

Sioux Sheriff 84-8 FacebookSioux Center, Iowa — A Rock Valley woman struck a grain trailer near Sioux Center on Monday, March 21st.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office reports that at about 2:35 pm, 31-year-old Rebecca Horton of Rock Valley was backing a 1997 Chevrolet Blazer from a residential driveway onto Garfield Avenue, five miles northwest of Sioux Center. Twenty-six-year-old Matthew Bruggeman of Larchwood was driving a 2010 Kenworth semi-tractor pulling a grain trailer northbound on Garfield Avenue. According to the report, Horton struck the grain trailer on the roadway.

The Blazer received $5000 damage, the grain trailer received $1000 damage.

No injuries were reported.


Two Vehicle Accident At Maurice

sioux sheriff emblem side of carMaurice, Iowa — Two vehicles were damaged in an accident in Maurice on Tuesday, March 22nd.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office reports that at about 11:43 am, 47-year-old Anthony Smythe of Primghar was driving a 2002 Freightliner semi-tractor pulling a tank trailer eastbound on 4th Street in Maurice, and stopped for the stop sign at Highway 75. Twenty-nine-year-old Derek Knopp of Spokane Valley, Washington was driving a 2015 Ford F-250 pickup northbound on Highway 75. According to the report, Smythe drove into the intersection and struck Knopp.

The Freightliner received $4000 damage. The Ford received $5000 damage.

No injuries were reported.


Sanborn Man Suffers Minor Injuries In Rollover Accident

accident wordSanborn, Iowa — a Sanborn man was slightly injured when he rolled his pickup early Tuesday morning north of Sanborn.

According to the O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office, the accident happened shortly before 12:30 Tuesday morning on Highway 59, near Roosevelt Avenue.  They say 31-year old Eliseo Hernandez-Pacheco of Sanborn was southbound on Highway 59 in a 2004 Ford pickup, when the truck wandered off onto the west shoulder.  Hernandez-Pacheco then lost control, and when he attempted to regain control of the truck, swerved across the roadway into the east ditch, striking a traffic sign, before rolling the truck onto it’s roof.

Deputies say damage to the pickup was estimated at $12-thousand, with damage to the traffic sign estimated at $100.

Authorities say Hernandez-Pacheco  had suspected minor injuries, according to the report, but was not taken to the hospital.  He was ticketed for Failure To Maintain Control, and No Valid Driver’s License, according to deputies.


One Person Transported After Hwy 60 Crash

AccidentGeneric 2Sheldon, Iowa — A Sibley woman sustained minor injuries in a two-vehicle crash that happened early Monday evening a mile north of Sheldon on Highway 60.

According to O’Brien County Sheriff’s Deputies, the accident happened about 5:15 Monday afternoon, when a 2005 Chevy truck, driven by 58-year old Brian Burkhart of Dell Rapids, South Dakota, was northbound on Highway 60, and slowed to make a right turn onto 300th Street.  Deputies say that a 2011 Mitsubishi, driven by 34-year old Jill Wasmund of Sibley was northbound behind the Burkhart truck.  Wasmund told deputies that she had been distracted by a cellular device, and failed to see the truck slow and signal for the turn.  Wasmund’s Mitsubishi struck the Chevy in the rear, causing it to enter the east ditch, where it came to rest on a large cement culvert.

Wasmund was transported to Sanford Sheldon Medical Center by SCAT, with what are described as minor injuries.

Damage to Burkhart’s Chevy truck was estimated at $3,500, with approximately $12-thousand estimated damage to Wasmund’s Mitsubishi.

Wasmund was ticketed for Following Too Close, according to the report.


Rock Rapids Man Jailed In Spencer On Multiple Charges

spencerpoliceSpencer, Iowa — A Rock Rapids man faces a litany of criminal charges following the investigation into a pair of burglary complaints received Sunday (March 13th) in Spencer.

Spencer Police Chief Mark Warburton says a search warrant was executed by Spencer Police at the residence of 317 W. 18th St. Lot #3 in Spencer yesterday (Thursday, March 17th).  Warburton says a search of the residence turned up stolen property from both burglaries as well as property from a car burglary that had not yet been discovered.  Methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia were also seized in the search, according to Chief Warburton.

The Chief says Spencer Police arrested 36 year-old Donald Bolan of Rock Rapids in conjunction with the search warrant.  He says Bolan was charged with 2 counts of Burglary in the 2nd Degree, a class C Felony, Burglary in the 3rd Degree, an aggravated misdemeanor, Credit Card Fraud, an aggravated misdemeanor, Possession of a Controlled Substance, namely methamphetamine, a serious misdemeanor, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, a simple misdemeanor.

According to Warburton, during the investigation it was determined that Bolan also had outstanding warrants for Parole Violation, Financial Transaction Fraud,  and Failure to Appear.

The Chief says Bolan is currently being held in the Clay County Jail in Spencer on $11,000 bond.


Hull Intersection Collision

Sioux Sheriff 84-8 FacebookHull, Iowa — Two vehicles were damaged after a collision at a Hull intersection on Monday, March 14th.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office reports that at about 3:39 pm, 18-year-old Kirsti Kooiker of Boyden was driving a 2003 Pontiac Bonneville eastbound on Railroad Street in Hull. Thirty-five-year-old Leanne Gaul of Hull was driving a 2013 Chrysler Town and Country minivan southbound on Elm Street. According to the report, the two met in the intersection where Gaul struck Kooiker.

The Pontiac received $3500 damage. The Chrysler received $4500 damage.
