One Injured In Primghar Crash

accident comicPrimghar, Iowa — A Hartley man was taken to the hospital following a 2-vehicle accident in Primghar Monday afternoon.

O’Brien County Sheriff’s Deputies say the accident took place when a 2002 Ford Excursion, driven by 26-year old Natashia Hofmeyer of Paullina was northbound on South Rerick Avenue, approaching the intersection with 3rd Street.  Deputies say a southbound 2008 Toyota Avalon, driven by 84-year old Arvin Schmidt of Hartley, made a left turn in front of Hofmeyer’s SUV, causing the vehicles to collide.  Deputies say Schmidt indicated he thought there was a stop sign for Hofmeyer at that intersection.

Schmidt was taken to Baum Harmon Mercy Medical Center in Primghar for treatment of possible injuries.  Schmidt was cited for Failure To Yield.

Damage to Schmidt’s Toyota was estimated to be about $5-thousand, with approximately$2-thousand damage reported to Hofmeyer’s SUV.

Primghar Ambulance assisted deputies at the scene.


Sheldon Garage Burglarized

sheldon police pdSheldon, Iowa — Sheldon Police are investigating a garage burglary that happened late last week.

According to the Incident Report, sometime between midnight Thursday and 9:50 am Friday, someone burglarized a garage on Washington Avenue, making off with a 19-inch flat screen TV, an 18-volt Dewalt drill, A reciprocating saw, and 4 6-packs of Red’s Beer.

Police say the total value of items taken was estimated at $260.00.

Minneapolis Man Arrested After Accident

o'brien county Sheriff EmblemPrimghar, Iowa — A Minneapolis man was arrested after an accident east of Primghar on Sunday, October 23rd.

The O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office reports that at about 7:52 am on Sunday morning, 30-year-old Brett Wieber of Minneapolis, Minnesota was driving 2003 Ford Taurus westbound 400th Street, east of Primghar. According to the report, Wieber lost control of his vehicle due to loose gravel conditions. Wieber entered the ditch in the southwest corner of the intersection of 400th Street and Tanager Avenue and impacted the ditch. The report continues that Wieber was brought to the hospital due to medical issues.

Criminal charges are pending for OWI, and the investigation is ongoing.

The Ford received $2,000 damage.

No injuries were reported.


Sibley Man Rear-Ends Trailer

Osceola Sheriff Car 72-2Sibley, Iowa — A Sibley man’s vehicle was damaged after rear-ending a trailer near Sibley in the evening hours of Saturday, October 22nd.

The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office reports that at about 8:00 pm on Saturday, 55-year-old Michael Block of Sibley was driving a 2001 Dodge Ram hauling trailers of round bales westbound on 170th Street, west of Sibley. Forty-year-old Arvin Krahlin of Sibley was driving a 2015 Nissan Murano behind Block. According to the report, Krahling was unable to see the Block vehicle due to the lack of lights and orange sign on the back of the vehicle and rear ended the Dodge.

The Nissan received $2,500 damage.

No injuries were reported.


Hartley Woman Strikes Deer

deer_sxcSanborn, Iowa — A Hartley woman escaped injury after striking a deer near Sanborn on Saturday, October 22nd.

The O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office reports that at about 7:44 am on Saturday, 55-year-old Betty Harms of Hartley was driving a 2013 Ford Expedition east of Sanborn. According to the report, Harms struck a deer on the roadway.

The Ford received $5,500 damage.

No injuries were reported.


Rock Valley Woman Hits Dog

Sioux Sheriff 84-8 FacebookRock Valley, Iowa — A Rock Valley woman’s vehicle was damaged after striking a dog on Monday, October 17th near Rock Valley.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office reports that at about 5:22 pm on Monday, 23-year-old Shonna Van Veldhuizen of Rock Valley was driving a 2012 Dodge Caravan northbound on Dogwood Avenue, five miles southwest of Rock Valley. According to the report, Van Veldhuizen struck a dog on the roadway.

The Dodge received $1,400 damage.

No injuries were reported.
