Sioux Center Men Face Felony Drug Charges

Sioux Center, Iowa — Two Sioux Center men face felony drug charges after an arrest on Wednesday, June 1st.

The Sioux Center Police Department reports that they arrested 34-year-old Benjamin Robert Schroeder and 25-year-old Reuben Michael Ritz of Sioux Center at their residence on Tenth Street Southeast in Sioux Center.

Sioux Center Police Chief Paul Adkins reports that his office had received some information in regard to possible illegal activity at that address. He says they questioned the men and found marijuana.

Schroeder was charged with the manufacture, delivery, or possession of a controlled substance and Ritz was charged with possession of marajuana. Additionally, both were charged with Delivery of Marajuana, which is a class “C” felony.

On the felony charge, both face up to ten years in prison and a fine of between a thousand and fifty thousand dollars if convicted.

They were taken to the Sioux County Jail, where at last report they remained on a cash or surety bond of $3000, each.

Adkins reports the case is still under investigation.


Dude, You Hit A Cop Car

Ramirez-De La RosaSioux Center, Iowa — A Sioux City man was charged with OWI after backing his car into a police vehicle Saturday night in Sioux Center.

According to the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office, shortly after 10:30 Saturday night, 33-year old Oscar Ramirez‐De La Rosa, of Sioux City, was westbound on 9th Street Southeast in Sioux Center, when he stopped his 1998 Toyota Camry and turned on the emergency flashers.  Deputies say 27-year old Sioux Center Police Officer Josh Koedam was driving a 2015 Ford Explorer Police vehicle when he observed the stopped Toyota with the flashers on.  They say Koedam drove behind it, stopped the patrol vehicle and activated the emergency lights.  Ramirez‐De La Rosa then reportedly backed the Camry into the Explorer.

No injuries were reported.

Deputies estimated damage to the Toyota at approximately $50.  The police vehicle was not damaged.

Upon further investigation, officers say they suspected that Ramirez‐De La Rosa was under the influence of alcohol.   Deputies say Ramirez‐De La Rosa was cited by the Sheriff’s Office for operating a motor vehicle without a valid driver’s license, and arrested by the Sioux Center Police Department for operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated.


Four Taken To Hospital After Accident Near Matlock

North of Matlock, Iowa — A George woman and her children were taken to the hospital after an accident north of Matlock in Lyon County on Friday, May 27, 2016.

The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office reports that about 12:18 PM, 34-year-old Jeanna Bennett of George was driving a 2004 Chevy Venture van southbound on Larch Avenue, about two miles north of Matlock, when she lost control of the van. The van entered the east ditch and rolled over onto its side.

The Sheldon Community Ambulance Team took Bennett and her three children to Sanford Sheldon Hospital.

In addition to Lyon County deputies, a Sioux County Deputy and SCAT assisted on the scene.


Hull Woman Taken To Hospital After Accident

Hull, Iowa — A Hull woman was taken to a hospital after an accident on Friday morning near Hull.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office reports that shortly after 7:00 AM, 26-year-old Stephanie Flores‐Casares of Hull was driving a 2002 Dodge Stratus southbound on Hickory Avenue, a mile south of Hull, when she lost control of the vehicle and it entered the east ditch.

The Hull Ambulance transported Flores‐Casares to the Sioux Center Hospital.

The Dodge was not damaged.

The Sheriff’s Office says the Hull Fire Department and Hull Ambulance crew assisted them on the scene.


Man Taken To Hospital After Truck Knocks Him Over

Sutherland, Iowa — A Sutherland man was taken to the hospital after an accident near Sutherland.

The O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office reports that about 5:19 PM on Thursday, May 19, 2016, 70-year-old Alan Vogel of Sutherland was driving a 1999 Ford pickup northbound on Van Burren Avenue, north of Sutherland.

The report says that Vogel stopped to pick up a can on the shoulder and exited the vehicle. The report says Vogel apparently didn’t get the vehicle in park and the pickup’s open door knocked him over and the pickup rolled past him and into the ditch.

The Sutherland Ambulance took Vogel to Baum Harmon Mercy Hospital in Primghar.

The pickup was not damaged.


Sheldon Man Taken To Hospital After ATV Accident

Hospers, Iowa — A Sheldon man was taken to the hospital after an ATV accident near Hospers on Thursday, May 19.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office reports that about 6:15 PM, they investigated an all‐terrain vehicle (ATV) accident that occurred on 370th Street, three miles northwest of Hospers.

They say it appears that 59-year-old Robert DeJong of Sheldon was driving a Polaris 425cc ATV eastbound on 370th Street when he lost control of the vehicle and it entered the south ditch. DeJong was ejected from the ATV in the ditch.

The Hospers Ambulance transported DeJong to Sanford Sheldon Hospital.

The ATV was undamaged.
