Sioux Center, Iowa — A failed pass ended up in an accident near Sioux Center on Tuesday, May 10th.
The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office reports that at about 2:08 pm on Tuesday, 25-year-old Beth Vonk of Ireton was driving a 2010 Mazda eastbound on 420th Street, six miles southwest of Sioux Center. Twenty-four-year-old Luis Hernadez-Flores was driving a 2006 Jeep Commander eastbound on 420th Street, behind Vonk. According to the report, Hernandez-Flores attempted to pass Vonk and struck the Mazda.
The Mazda received $2000 damage. The Jeep received $50 damage.
Orange City, Iowa — Three vehicles were damaged in Orange City on Wednesday, May 11th.
The Orange City Police Department reports that at about 6:00 pm on Wednesday, 17-year-old Jayci Nibbelink of Orange City was driving a 2000 Chevy Impala southbound on Georgia Avenue Southwest in Orange City. Twenty-year-old Aaron Lemon of Mitchell, South Dakota was driving a 2002 Ford Taurus eastbound on 7th Street Southwest and entered the intersection of Georgia and 7th. According to the report, Nibbelink failed to yield to Lemon, struck Lemon’s Ford and continued through the intersection onto the southeast curb and struck a legally parked 2005 Hyundai Tucson.
The Chevy received $6000 damage. The Ford received $5000 damage, and the Hyundai received $2000 damage.
Two area driver’s vehicles were damaged in an accident in Osceola County on Wednesday, May 11th.
The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office reports that at about 6:35 am on Wednesday, 32-year-old Derek Earl Byers of Sloan was driving a 2007 GMC Sierra, registered to Plains Mechanical Services Inc of Sioux City, eastbound on Highway 9. Nineteen-year-old Ryan Alan Gembler of Lake Park was driving a 2002 Chevy Silverado westbound on Highway 9. According to the report, Gembler lost control of the vehicle and crossed the center line and side swiped the Byers vehicle.
The Sierra received $2500 damage; the Silverado received $4000 damage.
Hull, Iowa — Two vehicles were damaged in an accident on Monday, May 9th near Hull.
The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office reports that at about 4:34 pm on Monday, 58-year-old Doris Kragt of Rock Valley was driving a 2010 Chevrolet Suburban westbound on 320th Street, two miles west of Hull. Forty-four-year-old Darcy Techen of Hull was driving a 2013 Ford F-150 behind Kragt. According to the repot, Kragt stopped for the stop sign at the intersection of Highway 75 and 320th Street when Techen struck Kragt.
The Chevrolet received $500 damage; the Ford received $2000 damage.
Sheldon, Iowa — Sheldon Emergency Services personnel were dispatched to a single-vehicle crash in the Sheldon Middle School Parking Lot late Monday afternoon.
Sheldon Police, Sheldon Fire & Rescue, Sheldon Community Ambulance Team, and Sheldon EMA were dispatched shortly before 5:00 pm Monday to the report of a minivan crashing into a concrete light support at the Sheldon Middle School.
Police say the accident happened when a 2002 Pontiac Montana minivan, driven by 38-year old Dawn Seivert of Sheldon was driving west through the parking lot. Seivert reportedly told police that she attempted to make a left turn in the lot, when her minivan struck the concrete support pillar.
Seivert was transported to Sanford Sheldon Medical Center by the Sheldon Community Ambulance Team, with undetermined injuries.
Damage to Seivert’s minivan was estimated at approximately $5,000, while the concrete support pillar was undamaged.
Orange City, Iowa — An Orange City man struck a deer on Saturday, May 7th near Orange City.
The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office reports that at about 9:06 am on Saturday, 55-year-old Harlan Ver Steeg of Orange City was driving a 1998 Dodge Ram pickup southbound on Jackson Avenue, seven miles north of Orange City. According to the report, Ver Steeg struck a deer on the roadway.
