Hull Man Taken To Hospital After Accident

Hull, Iowa — A Hull man was taken to the hospital after an accident near Hull.

The Iowa State Patrol reports that about 6:45 AM on Monday, May 2, 2016, 25 -year-old Jesse Wielenga of Hull was driving a 2002 Chevy on K52, about a mile north of Hull.

The report says that Wielenga was attempting a turn to go west on 310th Street. But it says he turned too short and the vehicle went down into the ditch and rolled onto its top on the cement culvert in the ditch on the northwest side of the intersection.

The Hull Ambulance took Wielenga to Sanford Sheldon Hospital.

Wielenga’s Chevy sustained $2000 in damages.

He was charged with failure to maintain control.


Student On Moped Struck By Car

Rock Rapids, Iowa — A Rock Rapids teen was taken to a hospital after an accident in Rock Rapids on Monday, May 2.

The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office reports that just before 8 AM, 61-year-old Joann Sheldon of Brandon, SD was driving a red 2015 Ford Explorer eastbound in the Central Lyon parking lot on the north side of Central Lyon High School. They say 15-year-old Kaden Sprock of Rock Rapids was driving a green 2015 Yamaha Moped westbound in the same parking lot.

According to the report, Mrs. Sheldon did not see the moped because of the glare from the sun and she began to pull into a parking spot. She struck the moped on the left side and knocked Sprock off onto the ground.

Sprock was transported to Sanford Rock Rapids Hospital.

The Lyon County Sheriff’s office was assisted by Lyon County Ambulance crew.


Hull Teen Backs Into Gas Meter

Sioux Sheriff Car 84-Hull, Iowa — A Hull teen struck a gas meter in Hull on Sunday, May 1st.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office reports that at about 8:31 pm on Sunday, 13-year-old Carson Zandstra of Hull was driving a 2003 Cadillac Escalade on private property in Hull. According to the report, as Zandstra was backing, he struck a MidAmerican Energy Company Gas Meter.

The Cadillac received $3000 damage.

No injuries were reported.


Fairmont Woman Hits Dog

Sioux Sheriff 84-8 FacebookHospers, Iowa — A Fairmont, Minnesota woman’s vehicle was damaged after she struck a dog near Hospers on Sunday, May 1st.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office reports that at about 9:02 am, 47-year-old Michelle Norstrom of Fairmont, Minnesota was driving a 2011 Ford Escape northbound on Highway 60, three miles north of Hospers. According to the report, Norstrom struck a dog in the roadway.

The Ford received $2500 damage.

No injuries were reported.


Two Vehicle Accident Takes Out Water Valve

sioux county sheriff emblemIreton, Iowa — Two vehicles were damaged in an accident near Ireton on Saturday, April 30th.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office reports that at about 12:02 pm on Satuday, 32-year-old Michael Timmer of Hawarden was driving a 2012 Chevrolet Silverado pulling an enclosed trailer northbound on Dipper Avenue, two miles west of Ireton. Sixteen-year-old Adam Viet of Hawarden was driving a 2008 Jeep Cherokee northbound on Dipper behind Timmer. According to the report, Timmer attempted to turn left onto 470th Street as Viet began passing him and Viet struck the Chevrolet in the intersection. After striking Timmer, Viet lost control of his vehicle, entered the west ditch and struck a Southern Sioux County Rural Water System water valve.

The Silverado received $9000 damage, the Jeep received $7000 damage, and the water valve received $1000 damage.

No injuries were reported.


Sibley Man Arrested After Investigation Into Abandoned Duffel Bag

handcuffs - subject inSibley, Iowa — What started as a complaint about an abandoned duffel bag, culminated with the arrest of a Sibley man.

The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office says they received a complaint from a Sibley resident that someone had left a duffel bag by her house.  Deputies responded to the complaint, and upon further investigation, discovered the bag belonged to 36-year old Daniel Ralph Riley of Sibley.  Deputies say that after interviewing Riley, he was placed under arrest on charges of Unlawful Possession of Prescription Drugs, which is a Serious Misdemeanor, and 5th Degree Theft, a Simple Misdemeanor.

Authorities say he was booked into the Osceola County jail in lieu of $1300 bond.
