Accident Near Orange City Leads To Arrest

sioux county sheriff emblemOrange City, Iowa — A Rock Rapids man was injured and later arrested after a two vehicle accident near Orange City on Tuesday, August 11th.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office reports that at about 11:34 am on Tuesday, August 11th, 34-year-old Aaron Van Kley of Rock Rapids was driving a 2002 Chevrolet Avalanche southbound on Jefferson Avenue, one mile northeast of Orange City. Sixty-one-year-old John Leusink of Orange City was driving a 2008 Ford F450 eastbound on 430th street. According to the report, the two met in the intersection where Van Kley struck Leusink.

The release states Van Kley was transported by the Orange City Ambulance to the Orange City Hospital Area Health System for treatment of minor injuries.

The report continues that after Van Kley’s release from the hospital, he was arrested for operating a motor vehicle with a revoked driver’s license. Additionally, he was cited for failing to yield right of way to a vehicle on the right and failing to use or maintain safety belts.

The Chevrolet received $6000 damage; the Ford received $5000 damage.

The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Orange City Police Department, Orange City Fire Department, and the Orange City Ambulance.


Single Vehicle Accident Near Alton

sioux county sheriff emblemAlton, Iowa — A Florida man’s vehicle was damaged in an accident near Alton on Saturday, August 8th.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office reports that at about 7:49 pm, 27-year-old Luis Gonzalez of Jacksonville, Florida was driving a 2003 Chrysler PT Cruiser southbound on Highway 60. According to the report, Gonzalez lost control of his vehicle, drove onto the west shoulder and struck a bridge guardrail.

The PT Cruiser received $5000 damage.

No injuries were reported.

Gonzalez was cited for failing to maintain control of a motor vehicle.

The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Orange City Police Department.


Four Taken To Hospital After Ritter Accident

Sheldon, Iowa – Four people from Rock Valley were taken to the hospital after an accident at Ritter, north of Sheldon.

The O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office reports that Sunday, August 9, 2015, 27-year-old Brandon Stoller of Rock Valley was driving a 2011 Toyota pickup northbound on Northwest Boulevard at Ritter. They report that 19-year-old Alex Strouth of Sheldon was eastbound on B14 in a 2005 Ford pickup, pulling a hog loading chute.

The report says that Stoller saw the Strouth pickup leave the stop sign near the railroad tracks and head eastbound through the intersection. Stoller attempted to avoid the collision but hit the Strouth pickup in the passenger side.

The report says Strouth did stop at the posted stop sign but failed to yield oncoming traffic.

SCAT took Stoller and three passengers, 27-year-old Whitney Stoller, 5-year-old Aubrey Stoller, and 1-year-old Jace Stoller to Sanford Sheldon Hospital.

Stoller ‘s Toyota sustained $18,000 in damages, and Strouth’s Ford sustained $ 10000 in damages.


Inwood Man Rolls Truck

Lyon County Sheriff Car Door 60-8Inwood, Iowa — An Inwood man’s vehicle was damaged after it rolled northeast of Inwood on Saturday, August 8th.

The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office reports, that at about 1:50 am, 29-year-old Israel Topete was driving a 2004 GMC Pickup westbound on 220th Street. According to the report, Topete lost control of his vehicle on the gravel and went into the north ditch and rolled.

The GMC received $13,000 damage.

No injuries were reported.


Five Taken To Hospital After Accident

Lester, Iowa — Five people were taken to a hospital after an accident on Friday night near Lester.

The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office reports that about 8:25 PM, 59-year-old Wanda Hoogendoorn of Larchwood was driving her 2011 Ford Edge about two miles west of Keith’s Korner in Lester. The report says she was stopped on Highway 9 waiting to turn south on to Dipper Avenue when she was allegedly rear-ended by a 2005 Ford F550 driven by 22-year-old Bernard Rahn of Mission, South Dakota. After it was struck, Hoogendoorn’s vehicle went into the south ditch and rolled and came to rest on the driver’s side.

Hoogendoorn and her four minor passengers were transported to Sanford Hospital in Rock Rapids.

Both vehicles were totaled in the accident.

The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office reports that the Lester Fire and Rescue crew and the Lyon County Ambulance crew assisted them at the scene.


Teens Taken To Hospitals After ATV Crash

Rock Valley, Iowa — Two teens from New Jersey were taken to a hospital, and one of them was transferred to a Sioux Falls hospital after an ATV accident on Friday evening, August 7, 2015.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office reports that about 6:30 PM, 15-year-old Cole Boonstra of North Haledon, New Jersey was driving a 2011 Case IH Scout ATV eastbound in a field along Elmwood Avenue, two miles south of Rock Valley. The report says he lost control of the vehicle and the vehicle rolled.

Boonstra and a passenger, 17-year-old Benjamin Boonstra, also of North Haledon were both ejected from the vehicle, says the report.

It says the Rock Valley Ambulance transported both Cole and Benjamin to Hegg Memorial Hospital in Rock Valley. Benjamin was later transported by the Rock Valley Ambulance to Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

The ATV sustained minor damage.

The Sheriff’s Office reports that the Rock Valley Ambulance crew and the Rock Valley Police Department assisted them on the scene.
