Sheldon Police Arrest One On Warrant, Cover Property Damage Accident

SheldonPD smallerSheldon, Iowa — In the latest from the Sheldon Police Department:

The police recently arrested 21-year-old Dillon Thomas Stave of Sheldon at Buddz’s on a warrant out of Kossuth County. Stave had pled guilty to the felony charge of Second Degree Theft in March, 2011 and allegedly violated his probation, so the warrant was issued for his arrest.

A Lake Park woman’s SUV and a Sanborn woman’s car were damaged in an accident on Thursday (2/21) in Sheldon.

The Sheldon Police Department reports that about 4:45 PM, 59-year-old Alice Anderson of Lake Park was westbound on Highway 18 in a 2007 Acura. Fifty-one-year-old Cloe Starkenburg of Sanborn was northbound from the west driveway of the new Casey’s in a 2013 Ford.

Anderson struck the Starkenburg vehicle as Starkenburg attempted to cross Highway 18.

Anderson’s Acura received $7000 damage. Starkenburg’s Ford received $10,000 damage.

Starkenburg was charged with Failure To Yield Entering a Highway.

Rock Rapids Men Arrested On Assault Charge, Operating Without Consent In Separate Incidents

Lyon County Sheriff Car DoorRock Rapids, Iowa — A Rock Rapids man has been arrested on an assault charge.

The Lyon County Sheriff’s office reports that the incident actually happened last Sunday, the 17th. They say their officers investigated the assault just after 4 PM that day. The alleged assault occurred at a home on South Tama Street in Rock Rapids.

After a short investigation the Sheriff’s Office arrested 69-year-old Douglas Wiarda of Rock Rapids on a charge of Aggravated Assault. The arrest stemmed from an alleged earlier incident between Doug and his brother, Merle Wiarda, also of Rock Rapids. Doug Wiarda was transported to the Lyon County Jail and booked in on the Assault charge.

In other news from the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office: on February 21,2013, a deputy arrested 21-year-old James Kyle Blair of Rock Rapids on a charge of operating a motor vehicle without an owner’s consent which is an aggravated misdemeanor.

Three Sioux County Residents Receive Minor Injuries In Boyden Accident

siouxsheriff2Boyden, Iowa — Three Sioux County residents escaped serious injury in an accident on Tuesday (2/19).

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office reports that about 4:40 PM, 53-year-old John Wood of Rock Valley was driving a 1998 Chevrolet Venture minivan westbound on Highway 18 in Boyden. Seventeen-year-old Scott Hansmann of Boyden was driving a 1999 Chevrolet Malibu southbound on Colfax Street.

Hansmann stopped for the stop sign at Highway 18. He was turning left onto Highway 18 when his vehicle struck Wood’s vehicle.

Wood, Hansmann and a passenger in Hansmann’s vehicle, Nicholas Rosenboom of Boyden, reported minor injuries but all refused further medical treatment.

The Venture sustained approximately $4,000 damage. The Malibu sustained approximately $5,000 damage. Hansmann was cited for failing to yield upon entering a through highway.

Sheldon Police Kept Busy Over The Weekend

Sheldon PD car police spdSheldon, IA — Sheldon Police were kept busy over the weekend with a variety of incidents. On Friday, they investigated break-ins of two automobiles that were parked in a parking lot on north Washington Avenue. In one instance the car was ransacked but nothing was missing. In the other, burglars reportedly stole a Kenwood car stereo, valued at about $80.

Shortly before 1:00 am Saturday, police received a report of damage to a glass door at BuddZ’s in Sheldon. Following their investigation, police arrested 34-year old Rashad O. Bettis of Sheldon on a charge of Criminal Mischief in the 4th Degree.

One individual was arrested twice on Saturday by Sheldon police. According to authorities, 22-year old Tony M. Holtrop was arrested early Saturday morning on a charge of Trespassing. Then around 2:00 Saturday afternoon, police say he was arrested a second time in connection with a shoplifting incident that took place around 9:30 that morning at Hy-Vee Liquor in Sheldon. Holtrop was reportedly charged with 5th Degree Theft for allegedly stealing a bottle of Everclear from the liquor store.

A 19-year old Sheldon resident faces charges in the aftermath of a shoplifting incident Saturday at Jensen Liquor. Police say 19-year old Nathaniel J. May was charged with 5th Degree Theft and Persons Under the Legal Age for allegedly stealing a bottle of Captain Morgan from Jensen Liquor.

About 3:55 Saturday afternoon Sheldon police stopped a car driven by 22-year old Roxanna Nelson of Sheldon. Police say Nelson was charged with Driving While Suspended, and released in connection with the incident.

A 32-year old Sheldon man faces charges of Violating a No-Contact Order, following his arrest Sunday in Sheldon. Police say Ryan J. McDaniel was taken into custody and transported to jail.

Two Granville Burglary Reports Have Authorities Looking For Clues

sioux sheriff emblem side of carGranville, Iowa — Two burglary reports in Granville yesterday (2/18) have Sioux County Authorities looking for clues.

At 8:50 AM, the Sheriff’s Office responded to a business burglary that occurred at G & H repair, 727 Elm Street, in Granville.

At 10:10 AM, the Sheriff’s Office responded to a second burglary complaint that occurred at the concession stand located at Vosberg Field, Main Street, in Granville.

In both burglaries, the perpetrator(s) damaged doors to gain entry. The burglaries remain under investigation to determine what property was stolen.
