Arrests For Child Endangerment, Drugs

Orange City, Iowa — In the latest from the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office:

On Sunday, June 21, at 12:53 a.m., the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office investigated a report of a disturbance that occurred at a residence, one and one‐half miles northeast of Ireton, IA.

Upon further investigation it was found that Keri Emery, age 24, of Pipestone, MN assaulted a male victim at the residence. Following the assault, Emery requested an ambulance for minor injuries she sustained during the disturbance. Three children were present in the area the assault occurred and were not injured.

Emery was transported by the Ireton Ambulance to the Hawarden Hospital. Upon her release from the hospital, she was arrested for assault and child endangerment.

The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Hawarden Police Department and Ireton Ambulance.

On Saturday, June 20, at 12:10 a.m., the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office arrested Juan Cervantes‐Pena, age 33, of Hawarden, IA.

The arrest stemmed from a traffic stop that occurred at the intersection of Highway 10 and 11th Street in Hawarden. Upon further investigation the deputy discovered illegal drugs in Cervantes‐Pena’s possession.

Cervantes‐Pena was arrested for possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.


Rock Rapids Woman Backs Into Vehicle

Lyon County Sheriff Car Door 60-8Inwood, IA — A Rock Rapids woman backed into a vehicle on Tuesday, June 23rd in Inwood.

The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office reports that at about 10:19 am, 63-year-old Lois Kuehl of Rock Rapids was backing out of a parking spot in a 2008 Chevrolet Impala, owned by New Century Press of Rock Rapids. Seventy-nine-year-old Clarene Burgers of Inwood was driving a 2007 Chevrolet Malibu, owned by Inwood Body Shop of Inwood, southbound on Main Street near Jefferson Street. According to the report, Kuehl was backing out of a parking spot onto Main Street and struck Burgers.

The Impala received $600 damage; the Malibu received $1500 damage.

No injuries were reported.


Sheldon Man Backs Into Vehicle, Leaves

sioux county sheriff emblemGranville, IA — A Sheldon man backed into a vehicle on Monday, June 22nd in Granville.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office reports that at about 6:47 pm, 55-year-old Jeffrey Thompson of Sheldon was backing out of a residential driveway. According to the report, Thompson struck an unattended 2005 Pontiac owned by thirty-two-year-old Sheri Nibbelink of LeMars. Thompson left the scene, but was found later.

The Pontiac received $1000 damage.

No injuries were reported.


Two Die In Jackson, MN Motorcycle Accident

Jackson, Minnesota — A Davenport, Iowa couple are dead after an accident near Jackson, Minnesota.

The Minnesota State Patrol reports that about 6:30 PM on Monday, June 22, 2015, 67-year-old Richard Hedeen of Davenport was driving a 2008 BMW motorcycle westbound on Interstate 90, about a mile east of the Highway 71 exit at Jackson. Forty-year-old Sharon Rowlet of West Des Moines was eastbound on 90 in a 2012 Honda Odyssey.

The report says that Hedeen lost control of the motorcycle, which veered over the centerline in a construction zone. The motorcycle struck the minivan, resulting in the deaths of both driver and passenger.

The Jackson Ambulance took Rowlet to Sanford Jackson Hospital. The trooper says three juvenile passengers of the minivan were also transported from the scene with no apparent injury.

Both Hedeen’s BMW motorcycle and and Rowlet’s minivan were totaled.

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, Jackson Fire Department and the Minnesota Department of Transportation assisted the Minnesota State Patrol at the scene.


Alleged Disgruntled Employee Faces Assault Charge

Orange City, Iowa — An allegedly disgruntled employee at Premium Pet Health in Orange City faces assault charges after an incident at the plant.

The Orange City Police Department reports that charges have been filed in response to an incident that happened on Thursday, June 18th.

They report that they were called to Premium Pet Health in Orange City shortly after midnight on an assault call.

Officers investigated the situation, and then arrested 33-year-old Saul Bernabe Perez Chun of LeMars on a charge of serious assault.

Officers believe the assault stemmed from Perez Chun being suspended from work earlier in the day.


Airlifted To Hospital After Accident

Sioux Center, Iowa — An Orange City woman was taken by helicopter to a Sioux Falls hospital after an accident in Sioux Center.

The Sioux Center Police Department reports that about 5:10 PM on Saturday, June 20, 2015, 21-year-old Breanne Cleveringa of Orange City was driving a 2002 Dodge southbound on Highway 75, in front of Vander Berg Furniture in Sioux Center.

The report says that for an unknown reason, the vehicle crossed the center line and left the roadway and entered the east ditch. It then went airborne through the landscaping and yard at 4162 US 75 before striking the northwest corner of the Vander Berg store.

After the Sioux Center Ambulance took Cleveringa to Sioux Center Health, she was further transported via Avera Careflight to Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, according to the report.

They say Cleveringa’s Dodge was totaled with $5000 in damages. The Vander Berg store sustained an estimated $15,000 in damages.

The Sioux Center Police Department advises that the investigation continues.
