Hospers Woman Hits Deer

deer_sxcHospers, Iowa – A Hospers woman’s vehicle was damaged in an accident on Tuesday, July 28th north of Hospers.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office reports that at about 11:34 am, Crystal Gloden of Hospers was driving a 2003 Chevrolet Impala northbound on Highway 60, three miles north of Hospers. According to the report, Gloden struck a deer in the roadway.

The Impala received $1500 damage.

No injuries were reported.


Charged With Assault On Peace Officer

Primghar, Iowa — A woman was arrested last week after she allegedly assaulted another woman and a sheriff’s deputy.

The O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office says they received a report of an assault at The Pride Group home.

They report that 25-year-old Ashleigh J. Sloan allegedly assaulted Jessica Burley, a staff member at the Pride Group home.

When the deputy attempted to arrest Ms. Sloan, she allegedly assaulted the deputy.

She is charged with simple assault — a simple misdemeanor — in connection with the assault on the staff member, and assault on a peace officer, which is a serious misdemeanor.

Neither assault required medical attention and no weapons were involved.

Sloan was transported to the O’Brien County Jail.

Sheriff Michael Anderson says Sloan was released from jail the next day on an unsecured appearance bond, and will appear in District Court at a later date.


Sheldon Man Arrested

osceolasheriffOn July 27, 2015 an Osceola County Deputy arrested Michael Wade Walker, age 37, of Sheldon, IA on an outstanding warrant.

Walker is charged with alleged Criminal Mischief – 5th Degree, and Theft 5th Degree, both Simple Misdemeanors. Walker is alleged to have stolen a coin box from the car wash in Melvin, IA this past January. Walker was booked into the Osceola County Jail and released after posting a $600 bond.


Burglary Being Investigated At George Bar

Rock Rapids, Iowa — The Lyon County Sheriff’s Department is looking for the public’s help to try to solve a burglary case in George.

The Sheriff’s Department reports that their deputies are investigating a recent burglary at the Last Call Saloon in George. The burglary is believed to have happened between 1:30 AM and 9:45 AM on Saturday July 25, 2015. Burglars are alleged to have caused a lot of damage to the bar and contents inside.

The Sheriff’s Department also says an undisclosed amount of cash and liquor was taken.

The Sheriff’s Department is asking if anyone saw or heard anything in the area of the Last Call Saloon between those times. If you did, they’d like you to call them at 712-472-8300.


Hull Teen Taken To Hospital After Moped Accident

Hull, Iowa — A Hull teen was taken to a hospital after his moped struck a pile of rock left in the street.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office reports that they investigated the accident on Friday morning, July 24. Upon further investigation, they believe the accident happened on Thursday, July 23, at about 10:15 PM.

They say 14-year-old Gavin Dykstra of Hull was driving a 1989 Honda moped eastbound on First Street when he struck a portion of a pile of landscape rock that had been placed on the street by a resident.

Dykstra was transported by private vehicle to the Sioux Center Health hospital.

The Honda sustained approximately $100 in damages.


Unresponsive Man Gets Up And Walks Away

Rock Rapids, Iowa — Emergency responders were called for an unresponsive man in Rock Rapids on Saturday, July 25.

The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office says they were called about 7:00 PM about an unresponsive man lying on the ground in Island Park in Rock Rapids.

When emergency responders got there, the man, identified as 50-year-old Jeffrey Howard Curry, then woke up and began walking away from the park. A Rock Rapids Firefighter followed Curry out of the park west bound on North Second Avenue, where deputies located him. Curry was showing signs of intoxication and subsequently arrested and charged with public intoxication, a simple misdemeanor.

The Lyon County Sheriff’s Department says the Lyon County Ambulance crew and the Rock Rapids Fire Department assisted on the scene.
