Two Vehicle Accident Near Rock Valley

Sioux Sheriff 84-8 FacebookRock Valley, Iowa — The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office investigate a report of a two vehicle accident near Rock Valley on Sunday, November 1st.

The Sheriff’s Office reports that at about 8:27 am, Lucio Mejia of Rock Valley was driving westbound in a 2015 Western Star straight truck on Highway 18, about three miles east of Rock Valley. Thirty-three-year-old Greg Bakker of Doon was driving a 2001 GMC Yukon westbound on Highway 18 behind Mejia. According to the report, Mejia slowed to turn left onto a field driveway and Bakker struck Mejia.

The Western Star received $700 damage; the GMC received $4500 damage.

No injuries were reported.


Sioux Center Woman Loses Control of Vehicle

sioux county sheriff emblemSioux Center, Iowa — A Sioux Center woman’s vehicle went into a ditch on Sunday, November 1st near Sioux Center.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office reports that at about 11:38 am on Sunday, 23-year-old Adilia Martin-Chilel of Sioux Center was driving a 2003 Ford Focus southbound on Fir Avenue. According to the report, she lost control of her vehicle and entered the west ditch.

The Ford received $2000 damage.

No injuries were reported.

Martin‐Chilel was cited for failure to maintain control of a motor vehicle, child restraint violation, operating a motor vehicle without a valid driver’s license and failure to register a motor vehicle.


Texas Teen Rolls Vehicle Near Alton

Sioux Sheriff 84-8 FacebookAlton, Iowa — A Texas teen rolled his vehicle near Alton on Friday, October 30th.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office reports that at about 9:09 pm on Friday, 19-year-old Robert Adams of Little Elm, Texas was driving a 2004 Jeep LL northbound on Kiwi Avenue, two miles east of Alton. According to the report, Adams lost control of his vehicle, entered the west ditch and rolled.

The Jeep received $4000 damage.

Adams reported minor injuries and refused further medical attention.

Adams was cited for failure to maintain control of a motor vehicle


Sioux City Man Found Guilty on Several Charges

Osceola County Courthouse Closeup_SVAOn October 28th Steven Bryce Simmons, age 35, of South Sioux City, NE was found guilty of Operating While Under the Influence, second offense, Possession of Marijuana, and Driving While License was Suspended, Denied, or Revoked.

For the charge of Operating While Under the Influence Simmons is to pay a fine of $1,850, a thirty-five percent (35%) surcharge of $647.50, the costs of this action, and restitution of any court appointed attorney fees. For the charges of Possession of Marijuana and Driving While License Suspended, Denied or Revoked the Simmons is to pay a fine of $1,650, and a thirty-five percent (35%) surcharge of $577.70. However, the fine and surcharge are suspended. Steven Bryce Simmons is sentenced to imprisonment in the Osceola County Jail for one hundred ninety (190) days with all but thirteen days suspended during a two (2) year formal probation to the Iowa Department of Corrections. Simmons was arrested after a traffic stop on December 27, 2014.


Two Taken to Hospital After Accident

Lyon County Sheriff Car Door 60-8Rock Rapids, Iowa — Two Glenwood men were taken to Sanford Rock Rapids after an accident on Saturday, October 24th east of Rock Rapids

The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office reports that at about 5:38 pm, 65-year-old Darrel Grosse of Glenwood was driving a 1992 Fleetwood camper. Twenty-three-year-old Adam Schafer of Sheldon was driving a 2006 Chevy pickup northbound on Indian Avenue. According to the report, the camper had mechanical problems, causing Grosse to stop partially in the roadway. The report continues that Schafer didn’t realize the camper was stopped and ran into the back of camper.

The camper received $15000 damage.

Both Grosse and Schafer received minor injuries. Passenger Robert Grosse also received unknown injuries and both he and Darrel were transported to Sanford of Rock Rapids. Schafer refused treatment at the scene.

The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Rock Rapids Fire Department and the Lyon County Ambulance.


Rock Valley Man Involved In Injury Accident

Pipestone, Minnesota — A Rock Valley man escaped injury in an accident in Pipestone, Minnesota recently.

The Minnesota State Patrol reports that about 9:12 PM on Wednesday, October 28, 2015, 23-year-old Christopher Zylstra of Rock Valley was driving a 1977 Kenworth semi southbound on Highway 75 in Pipestone. They say 63-year-old Lynette Lundberg of Grand Forks, ND was driving a 2014 GMC box truck.

The report says that Lundberg was attempting to turn right to go southbound on Highway 75, when the trucks collided.

The Pipestone County Ambulance took Lundberg to the Pipestone County Medical Center.

Both the Zylstra Kenworth semi and the Lundberg GMC sustained moderate damage.
