Sheldon Man Taken To Hospital After Accident

Hospers, Iowa — A Sheldon man was taken to a hospital after an accident near Hospers on Highway 60 on Thursday, July 16th.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office reports that about 11:35 AM, 72-year-old James Kray of Boyden was driving a 2007 Freightliner semi-tractor pulling a tank trailer southbound on Hospers Drive South. They report 22-year-old Matthew Youngers of Sheldon was driving a 1989 International straight truck southbound on Highway 60.

According to the report, Kray attempted a right turn, onto Highway 60, and his truck was struck by Youngers’ truck. After the accident the Youngers International straight truck entered the west ditch and rolled onto its side.

The Hospers Ambulance transported Youngers to the Orange City Health System Hospital.

The International sustained about $20,000 in damages. The Freightliner was not damaged.

Kray was cited on a charge of failing to yield from a stop sign.

The Sheriff’s Office says the Iowa State Patrol, Hospers Fire Department and Hospers Ambulance crew assisted them on the scene.


Vehicle Rollover Near Alvord

Lyon Sheriff Facebook HeaderAlvord, Iowa —  An Alvord man rolled his vehicle in an accident north of Alvord on Sunday, July 12th.

The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office reports, that at about 1:35 am on the 12th, 16-year-old Darin Knobloch of Alvord was driving a 2009 Chevy Impala on Fig Avenue, about 1/4 miles north of A-26(180th) street. According to the report, Knobloch lost control and went into the east ditch and rolled.

No injuries were reported.


Two Taken To Hospital After Accident

Ashton, Iowa — A woman and a child were taken to the hospital after an accident near Ashton on Tuesday, July 14th.

The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office reports that about 11:10 AM, 34-year-old Jason Lee Johnson of West Bend, Iowa was driving a 2000 Kenworth Semi southbound on Olive Avenue. They report that 31-year-old Kayla Ann Mastbergen of Melvin was driving a 2005 Dodge Caravan eastbound on 240th Street.

The deputy says Johnson had stopped at the stop sign on Olive Avenue and pulled into the roadway, failing to see the Mastbergen vehicle. The Johnson vehicle hit the Mastbergen vehicle broadside.

Mastbergen and a child passenger were transported to the Osceola Community Hospital. Johnson was not injured.

The semi received about $5000 in damage. The Caravan also received about $5000 in damage.

Johnson was cited on a charge of Failure to Yield from a Stop Sign.

The Sheriff’s Office says responders from the Ashton and Sibley Ambulance teams assisted at the scene.


Two Vehicle Accident Near Rock Valley

Sioux Sheriff Car 84-Rock Valley, Iowa — A two vehicle accident occured on Monday, July 13th, near Rock Valley.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office reports, that at about 10:22 am, 21-year-old Maria Vander Plaats of Sioux Center was driving a 2005 Chevrolet Equinox westbound on 280th Street, 15 miles northwest of Rock Valley. Eighty-one-year-old Ramona Schlup of Hudson, SD was driving a 2003 Pontiac Bonneville soutbound on A54B. According to the report, Vander Plaats drove onto A54B and struck Schlup.

The Chevrolet received $5000 damage. The Pontiac received $3000.

No injuries were reported.


Matlock Woman Arrested After Accident

Hospers, Iowa — A Matlock woman has been arrested after an accident on OWI charges.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s office reports that about 3:15 PM on Friday, July 10, 49-year-old Steven Miller of Boyden was driving a 2001 Freightliner pulling a grain trailer southbound on Highway 60, a mile south of Hospers. Twenty-eight-year-old Lindsay Kruse of Matlock was driving a 2003 Saturn southbound on Highway 60 behind Miller, when she struck the grain trailer on the roadway.

No injuries reported.

The Saturn sustained approximately $2,000 in damages.

Upon further investigation, deputies suspected that Kruse was under the influence of illegal drugs.

She was arrested and charged with operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated/drugged.

The Sheriff’s Office says the Iowa State Patrol assisted on the scene.


Pot And Meth Found During Traffic Stop

Doon, Iowa — A Dell Rapids, South Dakota man was arrested on drug charges after a traffic stop this past weekend.

The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office reports that on Saturday July 11, 2015, just before midnight, one of their deputies stopped a vehicle in the 2100 block of Highway 75 for an equipment violation. That’s about six miles south of Rock Rapids, near the Lakewood Corner.

They say that during the traffic stop it was discovered that the driver of the vehicle, 48-year-old John Wayne Miedema of Dell Rapids, South Dakota, was driving without a valid driver’s license. Deputies issued Mr. Miedema a citation on a charge of Driving Without a Valid License.

Deputies also obtained consent to search the vehicle. During the course of the search deputies allegedly found a small amount of marijuana and methamphetamine.

Miedema was placed under arrest and was charged with Possession of Marijuana, an Aggravated Misdemeanor and Possession of Methamphetamine, a Serious Misdemeanor. He was taken to the Lyon County Jail in Rock Rapids .
