Two Taken To Hospital After Perkins Accident

Hull, Iowa — A man from Hull and one from Sioux Center were taken to the hospital after an accident at Perkins Corner on Thursday July 2, 2015.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office reports that about 3:30 PM, 25-year-old Cory Kats of Hull driving a 1995 Chrysler New Yorker northbound on Highway 75. Zachary Dimmick of Sioux Center, who’s also 25 years old, was driving a 2013 GMC Sierra pickup westbound on 320th Street, according to the Sheriff’s Office. The report says Dimmick stopped for the stop sign at Highway 75 and then drove into the intersection where he was struck by Kats.

The Hull Ambulance crew transported both Dimmick and Kats to Sioux Center Health.

The Chrysler sustained approximately $4,000 in damages. The GMC sustained an estimated $7,000 in damages.

The Hull Ambulance crew, Hull Fire Department and the Iowa State Patrol assisted at the scene.

The Sheriff’s Office says they cited Dimmick on a charge of failure to yield the right of way from a stop sign.


Man Taken To Hospital, Cited After Accident

Sioux Center, Iowa — In the early hours of Friday morning, July 3rd, 2015, a Sioux Center man was taken to the hospital after an accident.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s office reports that just before 3:30 AM, 28-year-old Irving Ruiz of Sioux Center was driving a 2006 Freightliner feed truck southbound on Harrison Avenue, about a mile north of Sioux Center, when he lost control of the vehicle. The truck entered the west ditch where it rolled onto its side.

The Sioux Center Ambulance took Ruiz to the Sioux Center Health.

The Freightliner sustained about $75,000 in damages.

The Sheriff’s Office cited Ruiz on charges of failure to maintain control of a motor vehicle and operating a commercial motor vehicle with a suspended driver’s license.

The Sioux Center Police Department, Sioux Center Fire Department and Sioux Center Ambulance crew assisted the Sheriff’s Office on the scene.


Minnesota Man Hits Deer

deer_sxcHospers, IA — A Brooklyn Park, Minnesota man hit a deer on Thursday, July 2nd.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office reports, that at about 5:28 am, 30-year-old Khalid Elemo of Brooklyn Park, Minnesota was driving a 2010 Dodge Grand Caravan on Highway 60. According to the report, Elemo struck a deer in the roadway.

The Dodge received $2500 damage.

No injuries were reported.


Two Vehicle Accident Near Hull

sioux county sheriff emblemHull, IA — Two Hull residents’ vehicles were damaged in an accident near Hull on Wednesday, June 1st.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office reports that at about 9:54 am, 18-year-old Zachary DeJager of Hull was driving eastbound in a 1993 Chevrolet pickup on Highway 18, one mile wast of Hull. Twenty-year-old Kelsey Schenk of Hull was driving eastbound in a 2006 Pontiac G6, following DeJager. According to the Sheriff’s Office, DeJager stopped for oncoming traffic before attempting a left turn onto Indian Avenue, and was struck by Schenk.

The pickup received $500 damage. The Pontiac received $3500 damage.

No injuries were reported.


Rock Rapids Man Arrested

Lyon County Sheriff Car Door 60-8Lester, IA — A Rock Rapids man was arrested near Lester on Friday, June 26th.

The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office reports that at about 1:00 am on June 26th, 31-year-old Kary Meyer-Haglan was driving a motorcycle eastbound on Highway 9 at a high rate of speed. According to the report, a Lyon County Deputy stopped Meyer-Haglan, and found to be under the influence of alcohol and was subsequently charged with Operating While Intoxicated, 1st offense, a serious misdemeanor.

Meyer-Haglan was transported and booked into the Lyon County Jail.


Manure Wagon Hits Semi-Tractor

sioux county sheriff emblemRock Valley, IA — A Rock Valley man’s manure wagon struck a semi-tractor on Monday, June 29th near Rock Valley

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office reports that at about 5:17 pm, 57-year-old Randy Vande Kamp or Rock Valley was driving a 1987 Ford pickup pulling a manure wagon northbound on Garfield Avenue, five miles southeast of Rock Valley. Fifty-one-year-old Verlyn Van Regenmorter of Sioux Center was backing a 2006 Peterbilt semi-tractor pulling a livestock trailer southbound on Garfield Avenue. According to the report, Van Regenmorter was backing west onto a farm driveway as Vande Kamp passed him and the manure wagon struck the front of the semi-tractor.

The Peterbilt received $2000 damage.

No injuries were reported.
