Vehicles Driven By Orange City Teen, Orange City Man, Damaged In Orange City Area Accident

On Monday, March 19 at 7:38 AM, the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office investigated a motor vehicle accident that occurred on 410th Street west of K64, three miles north of Orange City Abigail Vandernoord, age 17, of Orange City was driving a 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix eastbound on 410th Street toward K64. Roy Hawkins, age 55, of Orange City was driving a 1999 Chevrolet Silverado pickup westbound on 410th Street from K-64. Vandernoord crested a hill and was partially in Hawkins lane of traffic. Vandernoord struck the side of Hawkins pick up, lost control and entered the south ditch. No injuries were reported. Hawkins pickup sustained about $100 in damages. Vandernoord’s vehicle sustained about $1,000 in damages. Vandernoord was cited for failing to yield half of roadway.

Hull Business Burglarized, Public Asked For Help

A business was broken into and several items taken during a burglary in Hull over the weekend. The Sioux County Sheriff’s office reports that sometime during the early morning hours of March 18, a person or persons entered Radio and TV Center by forced entry. Once inside, the perpetrators took several items including TV’s, audio devices, and cell phones.

The store surveillance system was also stolen. If anyone has information about this incident, they are asked to contact the Sheriff’s Office by phone or by using the text‐a‐tip program. You may remain anonymous.

O’Brien County Sheriff Deputies Charge Juveniles After Spray-Painting Incident

Four juveniles were charged with criminal mischief after authorities say they vandalized a traffic control device near Primghar.

The O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office reports that on Saturday (3/17), a traffic control device and the underside of a highway bridge near Primghar were spray-painted.

The next day, four juveniles — three from Primghar and one from Paullina — were charged with Fifth Degree Criminal Mischief — a simple misdemeanor. They were released to their parents.

Sioux City Man’s Car Damaged In Sunday Accident Near Sibley

March 18, 2012, at 6:40am, William Berg, age 22 of Sioux City, Iowa, was driving a 1998 Ford Escort, southbound on Nettle Avenue, north of 120th Street, six miles northwest of Sibley when he swerved to miss a deer. Berg’s vehicle went onto the west shoulder of the roadway, where Berg over-corrected the vehicle and slid into the east ditch. Berg’s vehicle sustained approximately $5,000 damage. Berg was given a citation for Failure to Maintain Control. No injuries were reported.

Rock Valley Man Shows Up Drunk At Sioux County Jail; Is Arrested For OWI

A Rock Valley man was charged with drinking and driving after he showed up drunk at the Sioux County Jail.

On Saturday, March 17 at 10:35 AM, the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office arrested 31-year-old Leslie Spaans of Rock Valley IA, for operating while intoxicated 2nd offense, an aggravated misdemeanor. Spaans was in route to the Sioux County Jail to serve his sentence for a previous crime. Upon his arrival at the jail it was found that he drove himself to the jail while intoxicated

Rock Rapids Man Arrested In Hull For Writing Checks On Closed Account

A Rock Rapids man has been arrested after he was found writing checks on a closed account in Hull.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office arrested 36-year-old Jonathan Vahl of Rock Rapids on Friday evening for theft in the 4th degree, a serious misdemeanor and theft in the 5th degree, a simple misdemeanor.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office had previously received complaints from two Hull businesses that Vahl had allegedly written checks on a closed account. Upon further investigation, it was discovered that there was an outstanding warrant for Vahl for allegedly writing checks on the closed account at businesses in Rock Valley.

On Friday, March 16, Vahl attempted to write additional checks at a third Hull business using the same closed checking account. The business notified the Sheriff’s Office and Vahl was arrested at the business.
