Man To Serve 11-Year Term For Meth Distribution

Sioux City, Iowa — A Spencer man has been sentenced to an eleven-year prison term after he pled guilty to conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine.

The United States Attorney’s Office in Sioux City reports that 52-year-old Todd Daugherty of Spencer received the prison term recently, following a February guilty plea.

Daugherty admitted his involvement in a conspiracy from about 2013 and continuing through May 2014 that distributed more than 50 grams of actual (pure) methamphetamine in Spencer and the surrounding area. Daugherty says he would obtain the methamphetamine from Minnesota and later distribute the methamphetamine to multiple customers in Iowa. A traffic stop was conducted of Daugherty in Minnesota in which four ounces of methamphetamine was seized.

Daugherty was sentenced to 132 months in prison, in addition to other fines, penalties, and assessments. He must also serve a five-year term of supervised release after the prison term. There is no parole in the federal system.


Motorcycle Hits Deer

deer_sxcA Rock Rapids man hit a deer north of Rock Rapids on Tuesday, June 2nd.

According to the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office, 52-year-old William Kastein of Rock Rapids was driving a 2000 Indian Chief motorcycle nortbound on Harding Avenue, north of Rock Rapids. According to the report, Kastein struck a deer that entered the roadway from the east ditch.

The motorcycle received $800 damage.

No injuries were reported.


Man Flown To Hospital After Accident

Alton, Iowa — A Nebraska man was flown to a Sioux City hospital after a motorcycle accident on Highway 60 near Alton on Monday, June 1.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office reports that shortly after 2 PM, 58-year-old Kenneth Schlueter of Royal, Nebraska was driving a 1998 Honda Goldwing motorcycle northbound on Highway 60 when he lost control of the motorcycle and entered the east ditch.

The Alton Ambulance took Schlueter to the Orange City Hospital. He was later flown to Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City.

The Honda sustained approximately $3,000 in damages.

The Orange City Police Department, Alton Ambulance and Orange City Ambulance and the Alton Fire Department assisted at the scene.


Sioux City Man Behind Bars After Chase

Alton, Iowa — A Sioux City man was arrested on Monday after allegedly leading law enforcement officers on a pursuit in eastern Sioux County.

Iowa State Patrol Sergeant Steve Hilt reports that about 8:10 PM on Monday, June 2, they arrested 34-year-old Robert Pistore of Sioux City.

A few moments earlier, Hilt says Trooper Jeff Zylstra had attempted to stop a dark Pontiac Gran Prix for a window tint violation. Hilt reports that the vehicle left the roadway and drove through fields and fences southwest of Hospers.

The car eventually came back onto the roadway and went south on Highway 60. Hilt says that the driver reached speeds near 100 miles per hour. The vehicle then began slowing down. When Sergeant Hilt joined the pursuit about two miles north of Alton, he says the speed had dropped to about 60 miles per hour.

The driver turned onto the exit ramp at Highway 10 near Alton. An Orange City Police vehicle was at the bottom of the ramp displaying emergency lights. The driver then pulled onto the gravel shoulder and stopped, says Hilt.

He says the driver and passenger were both detained in handcuffs. Pistore’s driver’s license had been suspended several times for failure to pay fines. The passenger had no charges or warrants and was released after about ten minutes, according to Hilt.

Trooper Zylstra took the driver to the Sioux County Jail where he was charged with driving while suspended, eluding, illegal window tint, and no insurance.


Two Vehicle Accident In Orange City

OC PD Orange City PoliceOrange City, IA — A Sioux Center woman’s and a Maurice woman’s vehicle were damaged in an accident on Monday, June 1st.

The Orange City Police Department reports that at about 2:45 pm, 24-year-old Leah Weikert of Sioux Center was driving northbound in a 2011 Chevy Impala and stopped at the stop sign at the intersection of 3rd Street and Arizona Avenue Southwest in Orange City. Fifty-two-year-old Jill Hayes of Maurice was driving a 2011 Toyota 4Runner westbound through the intersection of 3rd Street and Arizona Avenue Southwest. According to the report Weikert did not yield to Hayes, proceeded north into traffic and struck the Hayes.

Weikert’s Impala received $500 damage. Hayes’s Toyota received $2000 damage.

No injuries were reported.


Two Taken To Hospital After Motorcycle Accident

Alton, Iowa — Two people from Le Mars were taken to a hospital after an accident near Alton on Saturday night.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office reports that about 9:00 PM, 39-year-old Brian Dailey of Le Mars was driving a 2003 Harley‐Davidson motorcycle southbound on Highway 60, a mile south of Alton, when he lost control of the motorcycle.

One ambulance from Alton and one from Orange City took Dailey and a passenger, 26-year-old Heidi Ortmann of Le Mars to the Orange City Health System Hospital.

The Harley‐Davidson sustained approximately $4,000 in damages.

The Orange City Police Department, Alton Ambulance and the Orange City Ambulance assisted the Sheriff’s Office.

They report that alcohol is believed to be a factor and the accident is remains under investigation.
