Sheldon Police Arrest Two, Take Theft Report

Sheldon, Iowa — Sheldon police arrested a pair of Sheldon residents in separate incidents on Thursday, January 22nd, and took the report of a theft from a residence on Friday, January 23rd.

sheldon police pd car door logoAccording to information released by the Sheldon Police Department, 37-year old Clarence Melvin Paulsen of Sheldon was arrested on a 5th Degree Theft Warrant issued by the O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office.  The arrest took place about 1:15 Thursday afternoon.  Paulsen was transported to the O’Brien County Jail in Primghar.

Around 2:55 Thursday afternoon Sheldon Police say they observed 25-year old Allison Jerel Stone of Sheldon allegedly operating a motor vehicle on North 7th Avenue in Sheldon.  According to the report, Stone was arrested on a charge of Driving While License Suspended, and taken to jail in Primghar.

During the noon hour on Friday, police received a report of a package containing approximately $50 worth of Tupperware products that had been stolen from the front door of a residence in the 1900 block of East 9th Street.

Man Faces Felony Charges After ATV Chase

Doon, Iowa — A Doon man faces several charges including two felonies after authorities say he wouldn’t stop his ATV when a deputy tried to make a traffic stop in Doon.

The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office reports that on Friday evening, January 23, 2015, they received complaints of loud ATV’s driving around Doon. A deputy located two four wheelers on 5th Avenue near North 4th Street and activated the emergency lights in an attempt to stop them.

One four wheeler came to a stop and the second one continued south onto 6th Avenue. The Deputy then activated the sirens and the four wheeler continued, cutting through residential yards. The deputy then caught up to the four wheeler on 7th Avenue near North 4th Street where the four wheeler came to a stop. The deputy exited his car in an attempt to apprehend the subject. The four wheeler then started west on North 4th Street nearly striking the deputy. The eluding four wheeler came into sight again when it drove past the first four wheeler and a second deputy. The four wheeler came within feet of striking the second deputy.

The Sheriff’s Office says the driver of the first four wheeler, which stopped immediately was 40-year-old Travis Joe Caratachea of Buckeye, AZ . He was arrested on charges of Operating While Intoxicated, a Serious Misdemeanor, and cited for Operating an ATV on Roadways, a Simple Misdemeanor.

They report that the driver of the second ATV was 30-year-old Matthew James Johnson of Doon. Johnson was later located and arrested at his home on charges of Operating While Intoxicated 3rd Offense, a Class D Felony; Assault on a Peace Officer with a Dangerous Weapon, a Class D Felony; Eluding a Police Officer, a Serious Misdemeanor; Reckless Driving, a Simple Misdemeanor; and Disorderly Conduct, a Simple Misdemeanor. Johnson was also cited for Driving without a Valid Driver’s License and Operating a ATV on Roadways, both Simple Misdemeanors.

Hawarden Teen Faces Marijuana Charges

Akron, Iowa — A Hawarden teen was arrested on drug charges in Akron recently.

The Plymouth County Sheriff’s Office reports that on Saturday, January 17th, one of their deputies arrested 18-year-old Benjamin Gallaugher of Hawarden. Gallaugher had been a passenger in a vehicle that was stopped in Akron for a traffic violation.

During the investigation, Gallaugher was found to be in possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

He was charged with possession of a controlled substance, marijuana, a serious misdemeanor; and possession of drug paraphernalia, a simple misdemeanor.

Gallaugher was transported to the Plymouth County Jail and held on $1,000 bond.

Head-On Crash Sends Teen To Hospital

Rock Valley, Iowa — A Rock Valley teen was taken to the hospital after an accident near Rock Valley on Monday, January 19th.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office reports that about 5:40 PM, 15-year-old Joel Baartman of Rock Valley was driving a 2003 Buick Century eastbound on Highway 18, two miles east of Rock Valley. Fifty-four-year-old Kelly Miller of Urbandale was driving a 2005 Chevrolet Impala westbound on Highway 18.

The report says Baartman crossed the centerline and struck the Miller Chevy. Both vehicles then entered the north ditch where Baartman’s vehicle rolled.

The Rock Valley Ambulance transported Baartman to Hegg Memorial Hospital in Rock Valley.

The Buick and Chevy sustained approximately $8,000 in damages, each.

Baartman was charged with driving on the wrong side of highway.

The Rock Valley Fire Department and the Rock Valley Ambulance crew assisted the Sheriff’s Office.

Thirty-One People Charged With Alcohol Violations Near Hospers

Hospers, Iowa — Thirty one people were cited when the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office broke up a party on Saturday, January 17.

The Sheriff’s Office reports that in the 11 PM hour, they investigated a Text-a-Tip report of underage drinking going on at a home in the 4400 mile of 395th Street, a half mile west of Hospers.

Upon further investigation the sheriff’s office found a large gathering at that location. The officers charged 31 people with unlawful possession of alcohol.

One of the people charged was transported to Sanford Sheldon Hospital by the Hospers Ambulance for treatment of injuries sustained in a fall.

The Iowa State Patrol, Orange City Police Department and the Hospers Ambulance crew assisted deputies on the scene.

Osceola County Sheriff’s Office Makes Two Drug Arrests, One Trespassing Arrest

Sibley, Iowa — Two Sibley residents have been arrested on drug charges — one of them a felony — after a search by Osceola County Deputies.
The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office reports that they arrested 67-year-old Thomas Ray Stewart, and 58-year-old Debra Kay Stewart, both of Sibley on Monday, January 19th, 2015.

Osceola County deputies carried out a search warrant on Second Street Northeast in Sibley on Monday. During the search of the home, deputies found several items of drug paraphernalia, concentrated marijuana wax and marijuana plant material.

Thomas Stewart was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance, a serious misdemeanor; Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, a simple misdemeanor; Prohibited Acts, an aggravated misdemeanor; and Failure to Affix a Drug Tax Stamp, a class “D” felony. Debra Stewart was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Prohibited Acts.

Both were booked into the Osceola County Jail, and at last report were being held there, Thomas Stewart on a $5000 bond and Debra Stewart on a $2000 bond.

In other news from the Osceola County Sheriff’s office, one of their deputies arrested 57-year-old Randall Dean Bruns of Ashton on Monday, January 19th, 2015. Bruns was allegedly on private property without the owner’s permission. He was charged with trespassing and at last report was being held on a $300 bond.
