Deputies Investigate Possible Alcohol Overdose Case

Rock Valley, Iowa — A medical call on Saturday, May 16th, near Rock Valley has turned into an investigation into a possible alcohol overdose case.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office reports that early on that date, about 1:50 AM, they investigated a report of a medical emergency at a residence on Dogwood Avenue, five miles southwest of Rock Valley. The call reported that a female was unresponsive.

Upon further investigation, deputies believe that 20-year-old Tayler Hutchinson of Yankton, SD was in need of medical assistance due to an apparent alcohol overdose. They say Hutchinson had allegedly earlier consumed alcohol at a gathering in Rock Valley and then had been brought to the home on Dogwood Avenue.

Hutchinson was transported by the Rock Valley Ambulance to Hegg Memorial Hospital in Rock Valley. She was later transported to Avera‐Mckennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

They say the case remains under investigation with the possibility of pending criminal charges.

The Rock Valley Police Department and Rock Valley Ambulance crew assisted the Sheriff’s Office.


Hay Bales Hit Semi

sioux county sheriff emblemGranville, IA — A semi was damaged after hay bales fell off a pick up on Friday, May 15th near Granville.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office reports that at about 2:30 pm on Friday, 38-year-old Chad Miller of Marcus was driving a 1998 Chevrolet pickup southbound on Marsh Avenue hauling hay bales in the bed of the pickup. Thirty-five-year-old Dustin Wallenburg of Hartley was driving a 2007 Freightliner Semi northbound on Marsh Avenue. According the report, some hay bales fell off the Chevrolet, onto the roadway and were struck by the Freightliner.

The Freightliner received $1000 damage.

No injuries were reported


Iowa City Woman Hits Deer

deer_sxc2Sioux Center, IA — An Iowa City woman hit a deer near Sioux Center on Friday, May 15th.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office reports that at about 9:43 pm on Friday, 47-year-old Jana Grienke of Iowa City was eastbound on 400th Street, two miles east of Sioux Center in a 2015 Hyundai when she struck a deer in the roadway.

The Hyundai received $1500 damage.

No injuries were reported.


Woman Arrested On Drug, Other Charges

Ocheyedan, Iowa — A Slayton, Minnesota woman has been arrested on several charges after a traffic stop.

The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office reports that they arrested 29-year-old Sheila Marie Wilson of Slayton last week. The arrest stemmed from a traffic stop northeast of Ocheyedan. 

Wilson was charged with Operating While Intoxicated – 3rd Offense, Possession of a Controlled Substance – 3rd offense, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.  She was also issued a citation for Speeding. 

During the traffic stop Wilson was found to have an outstanding warrant in another county as well. 

Wilson was booked into the Osceola County Jail and released after posting a $5,000 bond.

The Osceola County Drug Recognition Expert assisted with the investigation and arrest.


Sioux Sheriff Investigating Maurice Burglary Report

Maurice, Iowa — The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help to solve a crime.

They report that on Saturday morning, May 16, they investigated a report of burglary and theft that allegedly occurred from a motor vehicle in Maurice.

Officers believe that sometime during the evening hours of Friday, May 15, or the early morning hours of Saturday, May 16 the perpetrator or perpetrators entered the cab of a semi‐truck and took a CB radio, GPS unit and a black CD case.

Anyone with information on this crime is asked to contact the Sheriff’s Office.


Two Vehicle Accident Near Hull

sioux county sheriff emblemA Hull woman’s vehicle and a Freeman, South Dakota woman’s vehicle were damaged in an accident on Thursday, May 14th.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office reports that at about 7:53 am, 26-year-old Allison Berkompas of Hull was westbound on 320th Street, two miles west of Hull, in a 2007 Chevrolet Trailblazer and stopped for the stop sign at Highway 75. Twenty-one-year-old Lillie Koerner of Freeman, SD was northbound on Highway 75 in a 2006 Pontiac Vibe. Berkompas drove into the intersection and was struck by Koerner.

Berkompas’s Chevrolet and Koerner’s Pontiac each received $10,000 damage.

No injuries were reported.

The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Iowa State Patrol.
