Man Turned In Via Text On ID Theft Charges

Rock Valley, Iowa — A man living in Rock Valley has been arrested on identity theft-related charges after someone turned him in via text.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office reports that they arrested 32-year-old Alejandro Hernandez‐Martinez of Rock Valley on Wednesday.

The arrest stemmed from an investigation into a Text‐a‐Tip complaint reporting that Hernandez‐Martinez was falsely using someone else’s identity.

Upon further investigation, deputies believe that Hernandez‐Martinez was illegally using another person’s identity to gain employment at a dairy in rural Rock Valley.

Hernandez‐Martinez was arrested and charged with forgery and identity theft.


Tractor Hits Parked Truck

sioux county sheriff emblemSioux Center, IA– A Boyden man struck a parked pickup on Tuesday, May 12th.

According to the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office, at about 12:13 pm, 22-year-old Dilan Moss of Boyden was driving eastbound on 410th Street, three miles west of Sioux Center, in a JCB farm tractor pulling a flat bed trailer loaded with bales. According the report, he struck a parked and unattended 2007 Ford pickup owned by Eagle Construction & Environmental Services of Panama City Beach, Florida.

The tractor received $200 damage; the Ford received $1000 damage.

No injuries were reported.


Two Vehicle Accident Near Lester

Lyon County Sheriff Car Door 60-8A South Carolina woman and a Rock Rapids man’s vehicles were damaged in an accident near Lester on Tuesday, May 12th.

According to the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office, 69-year-old Bridget Gorman of North Augusta, South Carolina was driving a 2011 Ford F 150 and turning into a residential drive 5 miles northeast of Lester. Twenty-three-year-old Derek Van Veldhuizen of Rock Rapids was driving east bound on a 2015 Can-Am Commander and was struck by Gorman.

The Ford received $1500 damage; Van Veldhuizen’s Can-Am received $500 damage.

No injuries were reported.

Gorman was cited for Failure to Yeild Upon a Left Turn.


Arrested On Identity Theft Charges

Hospers, Iowa — A woman living in Sioux City has been arrested on identity theft charges.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office reports that they arrested 21-year-old Adela Martin‐Ramirez of Sioux City on Monday.

The arrest stemmed from an investigation into a complaint from a person in Weslaco, TX reporting that someone was falsely using her identity.

Upon further investigation, it was found that Martin‐Ramirez was illegally using the Texas resident’s identity to gain employment in Hospers.

Martin‐Ramirez was arrested and was charged with two counts of forgery and identity theft.


UPDATE: Felon Fails To Return From Work Release

Update: The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office reports that Bottorff was back in custody as of late Tuesday night, May 12.

Orange City, Iowa — The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help to try to find a person who failed to return to their custody.

They report that 18-year-old Kyle Bottorff of Hawarden failed to return to the Sioux County Jail from work release. According to court records, Bottorff plead guilty in a plea agreement to felony burglary charges a week ago.

Sheriff’s officials say he was last seen driving a tan 1999 Chrysler Concorde, with Iowa license plate CVK 378.

Man Backs Into Vehicle

Lyon County Sheriff Car Door 60-8Inwood, Iowa — A Sioux Center man backed into an Inwood woman’s vehicle on Saturday, May 9th.

According to the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office, at about 12:10 pm, 41-year-old Traci Stubbe of Inwood was driving a 2009 Chevy Malibu southbound on Main Street near Jefferson Street. Sixty-seven-year-old Jan Bucks of Sioux Center was backing out of a parking spot in his 2001 Ford F150 and struck Stubbe’s Malibu.

Stubbe’s Malibu received $4500 damage. The F150 received $300 damage.

No injuries were reported.

Bucks was cited for unsafe backing.
