Hills Man Arrested After Doon Crash

Rock Rapids, Iowa — A Hills, Minnesota man has been arrested after a crash near Doon.

Monday’s arrest stems from an incident that happened last week. The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office responded to the report of a two-vehicle crash near the intersection of 240th Street and Ibex Avenue, about six miles northeast of Doon. They report that 37-year-old Sherry Baatz of Inwood was driving a 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix, which was struck by a 8520 John Deere tractor, driven by 45-year-old Bradley Baatz of Hills, MN.

The Pontiac sustained approximately $4,800 in damages. No injuries were reported.

The Sheriff’s Office says the cause appears to have been due to a domestic incident.

Then on Monday, May 4th 2015, deputies arrested Bradley Baatz on a warrant for Domestic Abuse Assault for the incident that occurred on April 27th, 2015. Baatz was arrested at the Lyon County Courthouse and was transported to the Lyon County Jail.


Estherville Pair Arrested On Warrants, Drug Charges

Hull, Iowa — Two people from Estherville have been arrested on warrants and drug-related charges after a traffic stop in Hull.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office reports that on Monday, May 4th, 2015, they arrested 40-year-old John Campbell and 31-year-old Haley Hansen, both of Estherville. The arrests stemmed from a traffic stop that occurred on Highway 18 in Hull.

After investigating, they say that Campbell’s driver’s license was suspended. They say both Campbell and Hansen also had active arrest warrants issued by the Emmet County Sheriff’s Office. During the traffic stop, illegal drugs were also allegedly discovered inside the vehicle.

Both were arrested on their outstanding warrants, plus Campbell was charged with operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated-drugged, possession of controlled substances, possession of drug paraphernalia, and driving with a suspended driver’s license. Hansen was charged with possession of controlled substances and possession of drug paraphernalia.


Milford Men Face Several Felony Drug Charges

Spirit Lake, Iowa — Two Milford men face several felony drug charges after a joint investigation with the Iowa Great Lakes Drug Task Force..

The Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office reports that they arrested 27-year-old Jeremy Hoffman and 39-year-old Heath Willison, both of Milford.

They are both charged with Ongoing Criminal Conduct, which is a Class B Felony.

Hoffman is charged with three counts, and Willison four counts of Possession with Intent to Deliver Methamphetamine Within 1000 Feet of a School, which is a Class C Felony. Hoffman is charged with three and Willison with four counts of Gathering Where Controlled Substances are Unlawfully Used, which is a Class D Felony; and they are both charged with Conspiracy, which is also a Class D Felony.

In Iowa, Class B Felonies are punishable by a 25-year prison term if the defendant is convicted. Class C Felonies are punishable by a 10-year prison term and a fine of between $1000 and $10,000. Class D Felonies are punishable by a five-year prison term and a fine of between $750 and $7500, again if the defendant is convicted.

Hoffman posted a $25,000 bond on April 24th, 2015. At last report, Willison was being held on a $25,000 bond.

The Spirit Lake Police Department, Okoboji Police Department, Milford Police Department, Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement, Clay County Sheriff’s Office, and the O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office assisted in the investigation.


Woman Arrested On ID-Theft-Related Charges

Hospers, Iowa — A woman living in Worthington has been arrested on identity theft-related charges in Sioux County.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office reports that on Friday evening, one of their deputies arrested 19-year-old Vivia Perez‐Ramirez of
Worthington. 

The arrest stemmed from an investigation into a complaint from a person in McAllen, TX reporting that someone was falsely using her identity.

Upon further investigation, deputies believe that Perez‐Ramirez was illegally using the Texas resident’s identity to gain employment in Hospers.  

Perez‐Ramirez was charged with forgery and identity theft.


Omaha Man Arrested In Sibley On Trespassing Charge

Sibley, Iowa — An Omaha, Nebraska man has been arrested after he showed up somewhere he wasn’t wanted.

The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office reports that on Sunday, May 3rd, one of their deputies arrested 30-year-old Daniel Andrew Zimmermann of Omaha after he is alleged to have trespassed on private property in Sibley.

The Sheriff’s Office received a report of a suspicious male outside a Sibley home. It is alleged that after being asked to leave the property, Zimmerman returned a short time later.

Zimmermann was arrested on the trespassing charge and was booked into the Osceola County Jail, where at last report he was being held on a $300 bond.


Sheldon Police Make Arrests, Citations, Handle Accidents

Sheldon, Iowa — In the latest from the Sheldon Police Department:

Officers advise that they cited a 14-year-old girl on a charge of simple assault on Thursday, April 23rd. She was cited and released to a parent.

They report that on Friday, April 24th, they arrested 58-year-old Peter Wood of Sheldon on a a Dickinson County warrant. He was transported to jail in Primghar.

Sheldon officers report that they cited 35-year-old Irvin Williams of Sheldon on Saturday, April 25th. He was charged with Driving Under Suspension. He was cited and released.

The police also report they arrested 30-year-old Brianna Holmberg of Boyden on Saturday, April 25th. She was charged with Contempt of Court and was taken to jail in Primghar.

Officers advise that they also arrested 54-year-old Lowell Williams, Jr. on Sunday, April 26th. He was taken to jail on an O’Brien County Mittimus.


A Sioux Center man’s car and a Sheldon man’s SUV were damaged in a crash on Friday, April 24, 2015 in Sheldon.

The Sheldon Police Department reports that about 3:40 PM, 26-year-old Logan Van Den Berg of Sioux Center was driving a 2006 Chevy southbound on Fourth Avenue. Twenty-three year-old Michael King of Sheldon was eastbound on Sixth Street in a 1998 GMC.

The report says that Van Den Berg entered the intersection without yielding and struck the King SUV. It says King was not required to yield.

Van Den Berg’s Chevy sustained $1500 in damages, and King’s GMC sustained $200 in damages.

Van Den Berg was charged with Failure to Obey Stop or Yield Sign.


A minivan driven by a Calumet teen and an SUV driven by a Sheldon woman were damaged in a crash on Tuesday, April 28, 2015 in Sheldon.

The Sheldon Police Department reports that about 6:05 PM, 16-year-old Zachary Riedemann of Calumet was driving a 2005 Dodge minivan, which had been parked northbound on Sheldon High School Parking Lot. Thirty-six year-old Heather Katt of Sheldon was westbound in the lot in a 2004 Dodge SUV.

The report says that Katt stopped for passing traffic. The officer says Riedemann did not see the Katt SUV stop behind him and backed into it.

The report says the Riedemann minivan sustained $2400 in damages, and the Katt SUV sustained $2800 in damages.


A car driven by a Primghar teen and a car driven by a Granville man were damaged in a crash on Wednesday, April 29, 2015 in Sheldon.

The Sheldon Police Department reports that about 11:50 AM, 18-year-old Jacob Rook of Primghar was driving a 1999 Lincoln northbound in the NCC Parking Lot. Twenty-year-old Alex Lange of Granville was westbound in the lot in a 2004 Chevy.

The report says that Lange was attempting to turn left from a parking lane and travel southbound. It says the vehicles collided while Lange was negotiating the turn.

The Rook Lincoln sustained $100 in damages, and the Lange Chevy sustained $1000 in damages.

Rook was charged with no proof of insurance – accident-related.
