Woman Arrested, Accused Of Stealing, Cashing Checks

Orange City, Iowa — A Sioux City woman has been arrested after authorities say she stole some checks and cashed them at an Orange City bank.

According to Orange City Police, on Monday, April 27th, they arrested 33-year-old Agnes Rose Sully of Sioux City on charges of Forgery and Theft in the Second Degree, both Class D Felonies.

Orange City Police Chief Jim Pottebaum says the case started on October 30th, 2013, when Sully allegedly cashed two stolen checks at Iowa State Bank in Orange City. The checks had been drawn on the account of an Iowa State Bank customer.

The theft was discovered when the customer tried to use her debit card, but was unable to, due to insufficient funds in the account. Pottebaum says that’s when they looked into it further and found that checks had been stolen.

Chief Pottebaum says Sully was eventually identified with the use of surveillance video. Sully was subsequently arrested.

Man Taken To Hospital After Dirt Bike Accident

Sanborn, Iowa — A Sanborn man was taken to the hospital after a dirt bike accident near Sanborn.

The O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office reports that about 3:55 PM on Sunday, April 26, 2015, 53-year-old Christopher Klump of Sanborn was driving a 1978 Yamaha dirt bike eastbound in the ditch of 330th Street, a half a mile east of the southeast corner of Sanborn.

The report says that Klump hit a low spot in the ditch near a culvert and lost control of the dirt bike, which ran into a barbed wire fence and wooden fence post. Klump was thrown from the dirt bike into the barbed wire fence. It says he was able to walk about a half mile to his home to call 911.

The Sanborn Ambulance took Klump to Baum Harmon Mercy Hospital in Primghar.

Klump’s Yamaha dirt bike sustained $ 300 in damages.

Sheldon, Iowa — The Sheldon Police Department has asked KIWA for help in getting the word out about an incident that occurred recently:

Sometime over the weekend of April 24, a 20’ construction trailer that was parked on 25th Avenue by the Schemper Park was damaged. An unknown person or persons threw rocks at the side of the trailer, causing extensive damage to it.  It appeared that the rocks came from the Schemper Park.  Anyone with information or who could identify kids playing in that area this weekend is asked to contact the Sheldon Police Department at 324-2525.

Ireton Woman Injured In SD Fatal Accident

Vermillion, SD — A Burbank, South Dakota woman has died from injuries sustained in a two-vehicle crash that occurred Thursday, April 23, at the Vermillion city limits.

The South Dakota Highway Patrol reports that 75-year-old Rosie Roegiers died Friday, April 24, in a Sioux Falls hospital.

The Patrol says the crash, reported at 6:35 PM Thursday, occurred at the intersection of the South Dakota Highway 50 bypass and Dakota Street. A 2005 Honda CRV was traveling east on the bypass approaching the intersection with Dakota Street at the Vermillion city limits. A 2004 Buick Century was going west and made a left-hand turn toward Dakota Street. The Buick was struck on its passenger side.

Two passengers in the Honda, 33-year-old Ann Nesselhuf, and her 13-year-old daughter, both of Vermillion, received minor injuries. Roegiers was the front side passenger in the vehicle.

The other driver was 81-year-old Ardis Eilts of Ireton. She was treated for serious, non-life threatening injuries.

Charges are pending against Eilts. The Highway Patrol says it appears that all occupants were wearing seat belts. Alcohol was not a factor in the crash. The investigation continues.

Other assisting agencies were Vermillion Police, Clay County Sheriff’s Office and Vermillion Fire/Emergency Medical Services.

Man Taken To Hospital After Accident

Everly, Iowa — A Hartley man was taken to the hospital after an accident near Everly on Friday.

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office reports that about 7:25 AM on Friday, April 24, 2015, 30-year-old Jason Huff of Lake Park was driving a Chevy pickup southbound on M27, about three miles north of Barb’s Corner near Everly. Thirty-four year-old Matthew Williams of Hartley was northbound on M27 in a 2004 Chrysler.

The report says that Huff saw the vehicle in front of him swerve and saw Williams traveling north in the south bound lane. Huff slowed down and pulled onto the west shoulder to avoid a collision, but the vehicles collided.

The Spencer Ambulance took Williams to the Spencer hospital.

Huff’s Chevy pickup sustained $20,000 in damages, and Williams ‘s Chrysler sustained $5000 in damages.

Williams was charged with driving on the wrong side of a two-way highway and no proof of insurance.

Everly Fire and Rescue, the Spencer Ambulance and Bud’s Service assisted at the scene.

Three Hull Boys Cited After Vandalism Investigation

Hull, Iowa — Charges have now been filed in connection with a vandalism report that occurred at Kids Kingdom park in Hull.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office investigated that report on Monday, April 13th.

The Sheriff’s Office now reports that on Wednesday they charged three boys from Hull with criminal mischief. They were cited and released their parents.

Sheriff officials believe the boys are the ones who used black and grey marker to write obscene drawings and graffiti on extensive areas of the park’s property.
