Woman Taken To Hospital After Crash

Hawarden, Iowa — A Hawarden woman was transported to a hospital after an accident near Hawarden on Thursday.

The Sioux County Sheriff Office reports about 11:40 AM, 49-year-old Heidi Bintz of Hawarden was driving a 2008 Chevrolet Silverado pickup northbound on Coolidge Avenue, eight miles northeast of Hawarden when she experienced a medical condition and lost control of the vehicle, which entered the west ditch and struck a field driveway.

Bintz was transported to the Hawarden hospital.

The Chevrolet sustained about $7,000 dollars in damages.

The Hawarden Police Department, Hawarden Fire Department, and Hawarden Ambulance crew assisted the Sheriff’s Office.

The accident remains under investigation.


Two Taken To Hospital After Crash

Maurice, Iowa – Two people were taken to a hospital after an accident at the “Million Dollar Corner,” near Maurice.

The Iowa State Patrol reports that about 1:20 PM on Tuesday, April 21, 2015, 83-year-old Alma Noe of Hawarden was driving a Ford westbound on Highway 10, at the “Million Dollar Corner,” about four miles south of Sioux Center. Twenty-seven year-old John Van Peursem of Maurice was southbound on Highway 75 in a 1993 Cadillac.

The report says that Noe and Van Peursem were approaching the intersection. A third vehicle driven by Paul Smit of Alton, was eastbound on Highway 10, and was stopped at the stop sign. The trooper’s report says Noe failed to yield the right-of-way from the stop sign and pulled out in front of Van Peursem. Noe’s and Van Peursem’s vehicles collided and were pushed into the Smit vehicle stopped at the stop sign.

The Sioux Center Ambulance took Noe to Orange City Health System. The Maurice First Responders took a passenger in the Van Peursem vehicle – Preston Van Peursem — to the Orange City Health System hospital.


Man Dies From Injuries Sustained In Crash

Hull, Iowa — A Rock Rapids man has died from injuries sustained in a car accident near Hull on Monday evening, April 20th, 2015.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office reports that about 8:50 PM, 22-year-old Steven Broersma of Sunnyside, Washington was driving a 1995 Case-International 7240 farm tractor pulling a manure spreader westbound on 290th Street, two miles north of Hull. Eighty-five-year-old Alvin Sohl of Rock Rapids was driving a 2006 Chrysler Town & Country minivan behind Broersma. As Sohl approached Broersma he was unable to stop and struck the rear of the manure spreader.

by the Hull Ambulance. They were both transferred to Avera Hospital in Sioux Falls, where Alvin Sohl died later that night.

The Hull Fire Department and Hull Ambulance crew assisted the Sheriff’s Office.

Western Christian Allegedly Burglarized

Hull, Iowa — Another break in has been reported at a Hull high school. This time three boys have been charged in connection with a break in at Western Christian High School.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office reports that about 5:30 AM on Saturday, April 18, their office investigated a reported burglary that was in progress at Western Christian High School in Hull.

Upon further investigation deputies were told that a school employee found several people inside the school.

The suspects allegedly had vandalized some areas of the school and took items from a concessions area.

The Sheriff’s Office charged three juvenile males from Hull with Third Degree Burglary. They were released to
their parents.

The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Rock Valley Police Department and Iowa State Patrol.

In February a 25-year-old and a 17-year-old were arrested on burglary charges after a break in at Trinity Christian High School in Hull.


Teen Arrested On Drug-Related Charges

Doon, Iowa — A Maurice teen has been arrested on drug-related charges in Lyon County.

The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office reports that about 2 AM on Saturday morning, one of their deputies stopped a vehicle on First Street and Hubbard Avenue in Doon. They report the driver was identified as 18-year-old Kolten Van Voorst of Maurice.

The Sheriff’s Office says that a search of the motor vehicle allegedly resulted in a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia being found. They say Van Voorst was arrested and transported to the Lyon County Jail.


Sheldon Man Faces Charges

sheldon police pd car door logoSheldon, Iowa — A Sheldon man faces charges of Aggravated Assault and Felony Child Endangerment following an incident on Tuesday.

Sheldon Police say the charges stem from an incident in which 29-year old David Lee Wilde allegedly assaulted an 8-year old child.

Police say Wilde was booked and released pending a court appearance.
