Semi Strikes Light Pole

sioux county sheriff emblemMaurice, IA — A Sioux Falls man’s drive trailer was damaged when the driver struck a light pole on Monday, June 29th near Maurice.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office reports, that at about 9:49 am on Monday, June 29th, 61-year-old Warren Barse was driving a 2001 Kenworth W900 semi-tractor pulling a Trail King Trailer and a smaller drive trailer designed to assist hauling over-sized loads northbound on Highway 75. According to the report, Barse turned left onto Highway 10 when the rear axles of the drive trailer malfunctioned and struck an Iowa Department of Transportation light pole.

The drive trailer received $500 damage; the light pole received $3000 damage.

No injuries were reported.


Cited On Underage Alcohol Possession Charges

Sioux Center, Iowa — Seven young people were charged with alcohol violations after a party near Sioux Center.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office reports that on Friday, June 26, in the 10 PM hour, their deputies investigated a report of underage drinking of alcohol that allegedly occurred at a home on Dove Avenue, seven miles west of Sioux Center.

Upon further investigation, deputies believe several people under the age of 21 were consuming alcohol.

They charged 19-year-old Nicholas Rosenboom and 19-year-old Kirk Postrollo both of Boyden; 20-year-old Brandon Driesen of Hull; 19-year-old Shelby Altena of Fairview, SD; 19-year-ols Mariah Jansma of Doon; 18-year-old Vanessa Van Kley of Rock Valley; and 19-year-old Hayden Fluit of Inwood with underage possession of alcohol.

Fluit was also arrested on a charge of interference with official acts.


Puppy Believed Stolen In Rural Sheldon

Sheldon, Iowa — The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office is looking for the public’s help to solve a puppy-napping.

They report that on Sunday evening, June 28, deputies were called to investigate a burglary and theft that occurred at 3D/Dobermans, at 3225 Larch Avenue, in rural Sheldon.

Deputies believe that sometime in the afternoon hours on June 28, the perpetrator(s) entered the kennels and stole a four-day-old male Doberman Pinscher puppy.

The dog has an estimated value of $500.

George Man Arrested On Warrant

Lyon County Sheriff Car Door 60-8George, IA — A George man was arrested on Thursday, June 25th at his home in George.

The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office reports at about 7:00 pm on Thursday, the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office received information that 46-year-old Bobby Sprock of George had a valid warrant for his arrest. According to the report, a warrant had been issued charging Sprock with Harassment in the 3rd Degree, a simple misdemeanor. Sprock was located at his home, and subsequently arrested.


Rock Rapids Man Charged With Public Intoxication

Lyon County Sheriff Car Door 60-8Rock Rapids, IA — A rural Rock Rapids man was arrested on Sunday, June 28th in Rock Rapids.

The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office reports, that at about 1:25 am, deputies observed a male subject walking on South Second Avenue near South Story Street in Rock Rapids carrying a drink. According to the report, 32-year-old Justin Fastert of Rock Rapids was approached by the deputies and showed signs of intoxication.

Fastert was arrested and charged with Public Intoxication and Open Container in a Public Place, both are simple misdemeanors.


George Woman Damages Vehicle

Boyden, IA — A George woman’s vehicle was damaged in an accident on Friday, June 26th, near Boyden.

sioux county sheriff emblemThe Sioux County Sheriff’s Office reports, that at about 2:29 pm on the 26th, 62-year-old Linda Groen of George, was driving a 2007 Chevrolet Impala northbound on Kennedy Avenue. According to the report, Groen lost control of her vehicle, struck a mailbox, and entered the east ditch.

The Impala received $3000 damage.

No injuries were reported.
