Mailbox Damaged In Accident

sioux county sheriff emblemHull, IA — A mailbox was damaged in an accident on Thursday, June 11th near Hull.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office reports, that at about 4:00 pm on Thursday, 18-year-old Jayden Hugie of Rock Valley was driving a 2002 GMC pickup pulling a flatbed trailer eastbound on 290th Street. According to the report, Hugie drove onto a farm residence driveway, stopped, began backing the trailer and trailer struck a mailbox.

The mailbox received $400 damage.

No injuries were reported.


Bales Dislodge From Trailer

sioux county sheriff emblemHull, IA — Bales dislodged from a trailer and damaged reflectors and posts on Thursday, June 11th near Hull.

According to the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office, at about 5:25 pm 18-year-old Jayden Hugie of Rock Valley was driving a 2002 GMC pickup pulling a flatbed trailer loaded with hay bales westbound on Highway 18, two and a half miles west of Hull. According to the report, some bales dislodged from the trailer an struck several Department of Transportation reflectors and posts mounted on a guardrail for a railroad bridge.

The reflectors and posts received $1000 damage.

No injuries were reported.


Man Taken To Hospital After Cement Truck Rolls

Sheldon, Iowa — A Schaller man was taken to a hospital after a cement truck rolled near Sheldon.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office reports that about 2:30 PM on Friday, June 12, 41-year-old Kelly Sturtevant of Schaller was driving a 2002 Kenworth cement truck southbound on Lily Avenue, four miles southwest of Sheldon, when he lost control of the vehicle, which entered the east ditch and rolled onto its side.

Sturtevant became trapped in the vehicle and was freed by emergency personnel. After he was removed from the truck, the Sheldon Community Ambulance Team took Sturtevant to Sanford Sheldon Hospital.

The Kenworth sustained an estimated $180,000 in damages.

The Sheriff’s Office reports the Boyden Fire Department, Boyden Ambulance team, the Sheldon Fire Company, SCAT, and the Iowa State Patrol assisted at the scene.

They say the accident remains under investigation.


Teen Taken To Hospital After Accident

Orange City, Iowa — An Orange City teen was taken to a hospital after an accident on Thursday, June 11th, 2014.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office reports that just after 7 AM, 18-year-old Mitchell Yaw of Orange City was driving a 2008 Ford Fusion westbound on 400th Street (B40), four miles north of Orange City, when he lost control of the car, says the Sheriff’s Office.

They say the car entered the south ditch and rolled.

We’re told the Orange City Ambulance took Yaw to the Orange City Health System Hospital.

The Ford sustained about $8,000 in damages.

The Sheriff’s Office says the Orange City Fire Department, Orange City Ambulance crew, and the Iowa State Patrol assisted them at the scene.


Hawarden Teen Facing Burglary Charges

Hawarden, Iowa — A Hawarden teen is now facing charges in relation to a burglary that happened in November.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office reports that on Wednesday, June 10, they charged a 17-year-old boy from Hawarden, after an investigation into a burglary that happened in November, 2014 at a business on Birch Avenue, two miles north of Hawarden.  

Sheriff’s officials believe the boy used a brick to break open a door to a construction business building. Once inside the building, a safe was stolen, they say.   

The Sheriff’s Office says the teen was cited into Juvenile Court on charges of burglary, theft and criminal mischief.


Two Vehicle Accident Near Sioux Center

sioux county sheriff emblemSioux Center, IA — A Rock Valley woman’s vehicle and an Orange City man’s vehicle were damaged in an accident near Sioux Center on Wednesday, June 10th.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office reports, that at about 5:14 pm, 47-year-old Denise Greene of Rock Valley was driving a 2010 Chevrolet Suburban southbound on Highway 10, one mile north of Sioux Center. Twenty-four-year-old Trevor Starkweather of Orange City was diving a 2005 Buick LeSabre southbound behind Greene. According to the report, Greene attempted to turn onto 370th Street and Starkweather struck Greene.

The Suburban received $2000 damage. The Buick received $8000 damage.

No injuries were reported.

Starkweather was cited for following too close.
