One of two people alleged to have vandalized several vehicles and stolen a TV from a Rock Rapids Business has been arrested.
The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office reports that they have arrested 18-year-old Jared Gerloff of Rock Rapids, and charged him with one count of criminal mischief in the second degree, a class D felony, and one count of theft in the fourth degree, a serious misdemeanor. Gerloff is currently being held at the Lyon County Jail on a $5,000 bond.
The charges stem from a rash of vandalisms of eleven vehicles in Rock Rapids and a theft of a television from the Rock Rapids Pizza Ranch.
Charges are pending for a second suspect.
A Sioux Center man’s pickup and a Orange City man’s minivan were damaged in an accident on Last Monday (3/19) near Alton.
The Iowa State Patrol reports that about 7:05 AM, 41-year-old Robert Carroll of Sioux Center was eastbound on Highway 10, east of Alton in a 2008 Nissan. Forty-seven-year-old Daran Huffman of Orange City was also eastbound on 10 behind Carroll in a 2005 Chevy.
Huffman attempted to pass Carroll. Huffman returned to the eastbound lane as he entered a no passing zone. The rear of Huffman’s minivan struck the front left corner of Carroll’s pickup
Carroll’s Nissan received $2000 damage. Huffman’s Chevy received $3500 damage.
There were no injuries.
Eight people were charged with alcohol offenses after O’Brien County deputies broke up a party near Hartley early on Sunday morning (3/18).
The O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office reports that they investigated a report of under age party southwest of Hartley. Seven adults and one juvenile were charged with Persons Under Legal Age, a simple misdemeanor.
Charged were 19-year-old Tylyn Lundquist of Paullina, 19-year-old Chelsea Lange of Primghar, 18-year-old Leigha Van Veldhuizen of Primghar, 20-year-old Garrett Werlinger of Primghar, 18-year-old Evan Rodger of Paullina, 19-year-old Brittani Plendl of Sanborn, and 19-year-old Kristen Conway of Hartley.
The juvenile was cited and released to parents.
The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Sanborn and Hartley Police Departments.
A Worthington man was taken to a hospital after an equipment malfunction near Allendorf caused him to have a car accident.
The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office reports that about 7 PM on Saturday (3/17), 47-year-old Biel Dieng of Worthington was driving a 1996 Pontiac Grand Am, southbound on Highway 59, north of 170th Street when something broke on the vehicle. Dieng lost control of the vehicle, which rolled into the east ditch.
Dieng was taken to the Osceola Community Hospital.
His vehicle was a total loss.
Dieng was ticketed for Violation of Instruction Permit and Failure to Prove Security against Liability.
The Sibley Ambulance Crew assisted the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office at the scene.
A Remsen man was taken to a hospital after an accident near Granville on Saturday.
The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office reports that about 6:05 PM, 56-year-old Peter Heidesch of Remsen was driving a 1998 Oldsmobile Cutlass northbound on Marsh Avenue, about a quarter mile north of Granville when he lost control of the vehicle, which entered the east ditch, rolled and collided with a utility pole.
Heidesch was transported to the Orange City Hospital by private vehicle.
Heidesch’s vehicle sustained approximately $3,000 in damages.
Three people from Sibley have been charged after a drug bust.
The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office reports that their deputies arrested and charged 27-year-old Adam Linday, 21-year-old Dmytro Wortman, and 19-year-old Alexis Wilson all of Sibley.
They were charged with the alleged Possession of a Controlled Substance, a Serious Misdemeanor, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, a Simple Misdemeanor and Prohibited Acts, an Aggravated Misdemeanor.
They were booked into the Osceola County Jail on a $3300 cash bond.
