A Rock Valley man was charged with drinking and driving after he showed up drunk at the Sioux County Jail.
On Saturday, March 17 at 10:35 AM, the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office arrested 31-year-old Leslie Spaans of Rock Valley IA, for operating while intoxicated 2nd offense, an aggravated misdemeanor. Spaans was in route to the Sioux County Jail to serve his sentence for a previous crime. Upon his arrival at the jail it was found that he drove himself to the jail while intoxicated
A Rock Rapids man has been arrested after he was found writing checks on a closed account in Hull.
The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office arrested 36-year-old Jonathan Vahl of Rock Rapids on Friday evening for theft in the 4th degree, a serious misdemeanor and theft in the 5th degree, a simple misdemeanor.
The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office had previously received complaints from two Hull businesses that Vahl had allegedly written checks on a closed account. Upon further investigation, it was discovered that there was an outstanding warrant for Vahl for allegedly writing checks on the closed account at businesses in Rock Valley.
On Friday, March 16, Vahl attempted to write additional checks at a third Hull business using the same closed checking account. The business notified the Sheriff’s Office and Vahl was arrested at the business.
A Hartley man was taken to the hospital after an accident Friday morning near Alton.
The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office reports that about 9:10 AM, 57-year-old John Lambert of Sioux Falls was driving a 2012 Volvo Semi‐tractor pulling an enclosed trailer northbound on Jackson Avenue stopped at the intersection with Highway 60, four miles south of Orange City. Fifty-one-year-old Preston DeBoer of Hartley was driving a 2003 Ford Escape southbound on Highway 60. Lambert proceeded from the stop sign, colliding with DeBoer.
DeBoer was transported to the Orange City Area Health System Hospital by the Alton Ambulance.
Lambert was cited for failure to yield entering through highway.
Lambert’s vehicle sustained about $8,000 in damages. DeBoer’s vehicle sustained about $10,000 in damages.
The Alton Fire Department and the Alton Ambulance assisted the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office at the scene.
Six people have been charged with drug offenses after a drug bust in Primghar on Wednesday (3/14).
The O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office reports that about 8:10 PM, their deputies served a search warrant at the Ryan Alan Coates residence — an apartment on Fourth Street Northeast in Primghar. Drug paraphernalia and a small quantity of marijuana were seized from Coates’ apartment. A subsequent search at Samantha Ann Dowd’s residence — another apartment at the same address — resulted in more paraphernalia being seized and a substantial quantity of marijuana.
Six people were arrested on drug charges.
Charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance, Marijuana, a serious misdemeanor, were 21-year-old Ryan Alan Coates of Primghar, 28-year-old William Glenn Collins II of Primghar, 24-year-old Samantha Ann Dowd of Primghar, 34-year-old Carissa Lea Collins of Hartley, and 18-year-old Bobbi Jo Collins of Hartley.
Charged with Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, a simple misdemeanor, were Coates, 20-year-old Emily Joyce Otto of Primghar, William Collins, and Dowd.
Additionally, Coates was charged with Supplying Alcohol to minors, a simple misdemeanor; and OWI charges against Bobbi Jo Collins are pending.
All were taken to the O’Brien County Jail and released the next morning on bond.
They will appear in court at a later date.
The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office, Sanborn Police Department, Hartley Police Department, and the Department of Human Services assisted the O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office.
March 16, 2012, at 8:00am, Keith Maxwell, age 45 of Worthington, Minnesota, was driving a 1996 Chevrolet pickup, southbound on Highway 60, approaching 100th Street — the state line road. John Schlagel, age 49 of Willmar, Minnesota, was driving a 2007 Chrysler Town & Country, westbound on 100th Street, from the median of Hwy 60. Schlagel did not see Maxwell’s vehicle approaching due to heavy fog, and collided on the highway. Schlagel’s vehicle, owned by Nova-Tech Engineering of Willmar, MN, sustained about $1,500 damage. Maxwell’s vehicle, owned by Coop Energy of Worthington, MN, sustained about $200 damage. No injuries were reported.
On Thursday, March 15, 2012, the Rock Valley Police Department responded to a missing person report. The missing subject was described as a 61 year old male, and was last seen Thursday morning within the city limits of Rock Valley.
Initial reports indicated the person was last seen walking west bound on the Kiwanis public trails in Rock Valley. The Rock Valley Fire and Ambulance were paged out to assist searching the area. A canine unit from the Sioux County Sheriff’s Department was also utilized to search the large area.
A private citizen, who was alerted to the report of the missing person, located the missing individual near the east side of Rock Valley. The reported missing person was in good health and did not require medical attention.
The Rock Valley Police Department was assisted by the Rock Valley Fire Department, Rock Valley Ambulance, Sioux County Sheriff’s Office, Sioux County Conservation Office, the Iowa State Patrol, and private citizens from the area.
