Harriet Thies

Funeral-female1Harriet Thies, aged 71, Laguna Niguel, CA, formerly of Ashton, IA passed away at her home in Laguna Niguel, CA on Thursday, June 27 following a courageous battle with ovarian cancer.

A Memorial Mass will be 11:00 AM, Monday, August 12th at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ashton, IA, with Father John Vakulskas as Celebrant.

Inurnment will follow at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Ashton.

Donations in Harriet’s honor can be made to the American Cancer Society, 250 Williams St. NW, Atlanta, GA 30303.

The Jurrens Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Dick Dykstra, age 77, of Hospers, passed away on Wednesday, August 7, 2013, at his residence.

There will be a funeral service on Saturday, August 10, at 10:30am, at the First Christian Reformed Church in Hospers.  The Rev. Marvin Leese will officiate.  Interment will follow at the Hospers Cemetery near Hospers.

Visitation will be after 5:00pm on Friday, with the family present from 6:00pm to 8:00pm, at the church.

Arrangements are being completed by the Oolman Funeral Home in Hospers.

James W. Alford

candleJames W. Alford age 54 of George, IA died Sunday, August 4, 2013 at the Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 7, 2013 at the Jurrens Funeral Home in George, with Reverend Terry Simm officiating.

Visitation will be Tuesday, August 6th from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with family present from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Jurrens Funeral Home in George.

Nettie V. Urban

Nettie UrbanNettie V. Urban, age 101, of Sheldon, Iowa passed away on Friday, August 2, 2013 at the Sanford Sheldon Senior Care in Sheldon, Iowa.

The funeral service will be 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, August 6, 2013 at the Bethel Reformed Church in Sheldon, Iowa with Rev. Troy Van Beek officiating. Burial will be in the East Lawn Cemetery in Sheldon, Iowa.

Visitation will be from 1:00 PM on Tuesday, August 6, 2013 until the time of service at the Bethel Reformed Church in Sheldon, Iowa.

The Vander Ploeg Funeral Home in Sheldon is in charge of arrangements.

Nettie V. Urban, the daughter of John H. and Hattie (Hofmeyer) Van Oort, was born December 23, 1911 in Newkirk, Iowa. She attended Lyon County School through the 8th grade. Nettie was united in marriage to George Urban on August 15, 1934 in her parents’ home near Sheldon. She owned and operated with her husband, Urbans Lunch for 25 years. Her husband, George preceded her in death on March 29, 1992.  Nettie moved into the Christian Retirement Home and then in 2006, she moved into the Sanford Senior Care both of Sheldon, Iowa where she passed away on Friday, August 2, 2013 reaching the age of 101 years, 7 months and 9 days.

     She was a member of Bethel Reformed Church in Sheldon.

     Nettie is survived by her nieces and nephews and many friends.

     She was preceded in death by her husband, George; an infant son, her parents, two sisters and seven brothers.

Terry Vander Ploeg Randazzo

Funeral - femaleTerry Vander Ploeg Randazzo, age 52, of Metairie, Louisiana, formerly of Hospers, passed away July 9th.

Memorial services will be held Saturday at 2:00 pm, in the Fellowship Hall of First Reformed Church of Hospers.

Refreshments and visiting with the family will follow the service.

 

Wilfred Vande Burgt

Mr. Wilfred Vande Burgt, age 85, of Hull, passed away on Monday, July 29, 2013, at the Pleasant Acres Care Center in Hull.

There will be a memorial service on Friday, August 2, at 11:00 am, at the First Christian Reformed Church in Hull. The Rev. Loren Kotman and Mr. Joel Wories will officiate. Interment will be prior to the service at the Hope Cemetery in Hull. There will be a prayer service on Friday, at 10:00 am, at the Oolman Funeral Home in Hull.

Visitation will be after 4:00 pm on Thursday, with the family present from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, at the funeral home.
