Gilbert Vollink

87 year old Gilbert Vollink of Archer passed away at his home on Wednesday June 12, 2013.

Funeral services will be Tuesday June 18, 2013 at 10:00am at the Archer Reformed Church at 210 Locust St. in Archer, IA.

Visitation will be Monday, June 17, 2013 from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the Archer Reformed Church in Archer. The family will be present at the church for visitation from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Monday evening.

The Sanborn Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements for Gilbert Vollink.


Keith De Jong

Mr. Keith De Jong, age 84, of Waterville, Minnesota, formerly of Orange City, passed away on May 16, 2013, at the Waterville Good Samaritan Center.

There will be a memorial service on Friday, June 21, at 10:30am, at the American Reformed Church in Orange City.  The Rev. Raymond Weiss and the Rev. John Hubers will officiate.  Interment will be prior to the service at the West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City.  There will be a prayer service on Friday, at 9:45am, at the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City.

Visitation with the family will be on Thursday, June 20, from 4:00pm to 8:00pm, at the funeral home.


Robert “Bob” L. Witt

Robert “Bob” L. Witt, age 80 of Rock Rapids, IA died Thursday, June 13, 2013 at Sanford Hospital in Rock Rapids, IA.

Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, June 18th at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Rock Rapids, with Rev. Dan Kordahl officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery in Rock Rapids.

Visitation will be Monday, June 17th from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Jurrens Funeral Home of Rock Rapids.

Robert Lee Witt was born March 11, 1933 in Akron, Iowa, the son of Albert and Frances (Smith) Witt. He attended Akron Community Schools and graduated from high school in 1951. In 1953 he entered the U. S. Army and was honorably discharge in 1955, with the rank of Sergeant. He then continued his education at Iowa State College in Ames, IA.

On June 16, 1957 Robert was united in marriage to Joyce Jurgensen at Trinity Lutheran Church in Akron. He graduated from Iowa State in 1958 with a degree in Agriculture Education. The couple moved to Rock Rapids, IA later that year, while Robert taught for 4 years at the Rock Rapids Community School. He then worked the next 51 years at Rock Rapids State Bank, presently known as Frontier Bank, serving on Board of Director until his death.

Robert was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Rock Rapids. He also served on Rock Rapids City Council and City Municipal Utilities Board. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, camping with family and traveling with Joyce.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce Witt of Rock Rapids, IA; two sons, Bryan (Mary Jo) Witt and Brad (Cindy) Witt, both of Rock Rapids, IA; eight grandchildren, Tina (Kevin) Fluit, Khristy (Ryan) Funk, Kyle (Marie) Brower, Brandon Witt, Mickee Witt, Alex Harr, Makayla Witt, and Brevin Witt, all of Rock Rapids, IA; seven great-grandchildren, Kaylee Fluit, Katrina Fluit, Kenley Fluit, Keaton Funk, Elliott Funk, Cullen Funk and Khoryn Funk, all of Rock Rapids, IA; and other extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Frances Witt; one brother, Richard Witt; and one granddaughter, Kelsey Ellen Witt.


Hilda Mouw

Mrs. Hilda Mouw, age 87, of Hull, passed away on Thursday, June 13, 2013, at Aspen Heights Assisted Living in Hull.

There will be a funeral service on Monday, June 17, at 10:30am, at the First Christian Reformed Church in Hull. The Rev. Loren Kotman will officiate. There will be a graveside service on Monday, at 1:30pm, at the Christian Reformed Cemetery in Hills, Minnesota.

Visitation will be after 3:00pm on Sunday, with the family present from 3:00pm to 5:00pm, at the Oolman Funeral Home in Hull.


Johanna C. Hoogeterp

Johanna C. Hoogeterp, age 83, of Sheldon, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, June 13, 2013 at the Good Samaritan Society Nursing Home in George, Iowa

Funeral will be 10:30 A.M. on Tuesday, June 18, 2013 at the First Reformed Church in Sheldon, Iowa with Pastor David Brower ~ officiating. Burial will be in the East Lawn Cemetery in Sheldon.

Visitation will be Monday, June 17, 2013 after 4:00 P.M. with the family present from 5:00 – 6:00 P.M. at the Vander Ploeg Funeral Home in Sheldon.

Johanna Christina Hoogeterp, the daughter of Lubbertus Henry and Gertrude Kathrine (Vos) te Velde was born July 23, 1929 in Ireton, Iowa. Johanna grew-up in Ireton and Brooten, Minnesota where she also received her education. Johanna worked at the Campbell Soup Company in Worthington and for a nursing home near Brooten before she was married. On June 23, 1954, she was united in marriage to Theo Hoogeterp in Brooten, Minnesota and the couple made their home on the south edge of Sheldon, Iowa. Johanna was a mother and a homemaker, she helped her husband with his business and she also cleaned the Security State Bank in Sheldon for a while. She was preceded in death by her husband, Theo on May 26, 2007. Johanna remained in their home until moving to Sanford Senior Care in Sheldon in February of 2013 and then to the Good Samaritan Society Nursing Home in George, Iowa in May. Johanna passed away on Thursday, June 13, 2013 at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home reaching the age of 83 years, 10 months and 21 days.

     She was a member of First Reformed Church of Sheldon. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting and donating the items to whoever needed them; gardening, watching her birds and camping. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family.

     Johanna leaves to cherish her memory her three children and their spouses, Harlan and Aletha Hoogeterp of Canton, South Dakota; Steven and Corrine Hoogeterp of Spencer, Iowa and Karen and Steven Varner of Sheldon, Iowa; six grandchildren, Jeffrey, Christina, Adam, Andrew, Johanna and Johnathan; four great grandchildren, Summer, Landen, Lilleigh and Skye; five brothers and sisters, Bertha Smit, Gertrude Bothof, Elaine Grumbles, Conrad “Con” and Carol te Velde, and Gerrit “John” and Elsie te Velde; a sister-in-law, Nel te Velde; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives and many friends.

     She was preceded in death by her husband, Theo; an infant son, Timothy; her parents, a sister and her husband, Berendina and Alfred Ras; two brothers, Herman “Herm” te Velde and Albert Kornelius and his wife, Lynn te Velde; and two brothers-in-law, Harry Smit and Gerald Bothof.


Gerald “Gene” Scholten

Gerald “Gene” Scholten, age 87 of George, IA died Wednesday, June 12, 2013 at the Good Samaritan Center in George, IA.

Funeral service will be 10:30 AM Monday, June 17, 2013 at Lyon County First Presbyterian Church of George, IA with Rev. Paul Fischer officiating.  Burial will follow at Evergreen Lawn Cemetery in George.

Visitation will be Sunday June 16, 2013 from 4 PM to 8 PM with family present from 6 PM to 8 PM at Jurrens Funeral Home in George, IA.
