Peter Flick

Peter Flick, age 83 of Hartley passed away at the Sanford Sheldon Medical Center in Sheldon, on Tuesday, November 6, 2012.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 10th at 10:30 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church in Primghar, with Pastors Kim and Trudy Peterson officiating.

Visitation will be on Friday, November 9th at the Hartley Funeral Home in Hartley from 2:00 until 7:00 p.m., with family present from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Burial will be at Pleasant View Cemetery in Hartley at 9:30 prior to the service on Saturday.

Patrick Joseph Murphy

Patrick Joseph Murphy (63) passed away suddenly at the home he shared with his family in Scottsdale, Arizona. Born in Sheldon, Iowa in 1949, Pat was extremely involved in local government, serving for many years on the city council and as mayor pro tem.

A viewing will be held Tuesday November 6th from 6-8 pm at the Dunn Funeral Home.

Pat’s funeral service will be held at St. Augustin Church on 42nd and Grand on Wednesday, November the 7th at 1pm. Internment to follow at Merle Hay Mausoleum.

After graduating college at Mankato State University, Pat joined his father in the Real Estate business. Over the next 40 years, Pat held nearly every position within the Iowa Association of Realtors and was its President in 1996. He won countless awards, including Realtor of the year and the O.G. Powell Lifetime Achievement award before retiring in 2010.

He is preceded in death by one sister, Sharon Murphy, and his father, Roy Murphy. He is survived by his mother, Loretta M. Murphy, one sister, Sheila & Bill Horton of Burnsville Minn., and three brothers: Jerry & Sue Murphy of Ankeny, Dr. Thomas & Peggy Murphy of Plymouth, Minn., Dr. Denny and Bev Murphy of Hutchinson, Minn. Pat had many nieces, nephews and cousins. He is also survived by Barbara L Murphy of Sheldon and their two adult children, Kevin Murphy of Sheldon and Erin Murphy-Carpenter of Urbandale and Scottsdale. He lived with the love of his life, Beth Krantz and their three children Molly (12), Michael (11) and Maxwell(7) as well as Erin who divided her time between Iowa and Arizona.

Pat was a passionate Realtor and duck hunter who loved his family more than anything. He passed away suddenly at home, surrounded by his family, after a brief battle with cancer. He is greatly missed and loved by all. We will never forget you.


Robert Boonstra

Mr. Robert Boonstra, age 89, of Orange City, passed away on Sunday, November 4, 2012, at the Happy Siesta Care Center in Remsen.

There will be a memorial service on Wednesday, November 7, at 3:00pm, at the American Reformed Church in Orange City. The Rev. Keith Krebs will officiate. Interment will be prior to the service at the West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City. There will be a prayer service on Wednesday, at 2:00pm, at the church.

Visitation with the family present will be on Tuesday, from 5:00pm to 7:00pm, at the church. Arrangements are with the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City.

Robert was born on November 22, 1922, in Sioux Center, the son of Dick and Ann (Extra) Boonstra. He was raised mostly at Maurice, and he served in the United States Navy during World War II on a destroyer escort in the North Atlantic.

On November 1, 1946, he married Myrna Mae Moret at the Boyden Presbyterian Church. They made their home in Orange City, where he represented the Kirby Vacuum Company for many years. They also wintered in Arizona for several years. In March of this year, he became a resident of Happy Siesta.

Bob was a member of the American Reformed Church and in earlier years at Calvary Christian Reformed Church. Bob used his many musical talents, including directing the church choir and men’s chorus, and organizing quartets and Christmas cantatas. He also organized a chorus at their park in Arizona.

He enjoyed fishing, gardening, picking-up trash around the streets of Orange City, traveling in their motor home, and writing poetry. From the age of 62, until the age of 87, he ran 3 to 12 miles a day. He also participated in and raised money for the Relay for Life for the American Cancer Society many times.

Survivors include his wife of 66 years; two sons and their wives, Bob and Patricia Boonstra and Bryan and Pam Boonstra, and two daughters and their husbands, Gail and Rusty Marincovich and Lisa and Doug Burg, all of Orange City; ten grandchildren, Jeff Boonstra, and his wife, Michelle, of Dakota Dunes, South Dakota; Andy Boonstra, of Omaha, Nebraska; Ryan Marincovich, of Las Vegas, Nevada; Ben Marincovich, of Omaha; Maria Plueger, of Sioux City; Isaac Plueger, of New York City, New York; and Tessa, Sera, Anton, and Ben Burg, all of Orange City; two great-grandchildren, Jackson and Tanner Boonstra, both of Dakota Dunes; three brothers, Harold Boonstra, of Chicago, Illinois; Norman Boonstra, and his wife, Velma, of Spencer; and Rudy Boonstra, of Orange City; and a sister, Mary Mouw, and a brother-in-law, Frank Vogel, both of Orange City.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Lois Vogel; a sister-in-law, Ann Boonstra; and a brother-in-law, Vernon Mouw.

Memorials will be directed to the MOC-FloydValley District Foundation, to help students purchase musical instruments.


Louise DeVries

Louise DeVries, age 90 of Mesa, AZ, formerly of Sanborn, passed away at her son’s home in Mesa on Saturday, November 3rd, 2012.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 10th at 10:30 a.m. at the First Reformed Church in Sanborn.  Rev. Gary Hegstad will be officiating. Visitation will be at the church one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at Roseland Cemetery in Sanborn.

Lois Odens

Lois Odens, age 91 of Little Rock, IA died Friday November 2, 2012 at Country View Manor Nursing Home in Sibley, IA.

Funeral service will be 10:30 AM, Tuesday, November 6th at First Presbyterian Church in Little Rock, with Reverend Scott Burdsall officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant View Cemetery in Little Rock.

Visitation will be Monday, November 5th from 2-8 PM with the family present from 6-8 PM at the Jurrens Funeral Home in Little Rock.

Lois Iris Odens was born on April 21, 1921, the daughter of Louis and Velva (Folkers) Larson. She grew up in Ashton, IA and graduated from Ashton High School in 1938. On February 24, 1941, Lois was united in marriage to Ben Odens in the parsonage of the First Presbyterian Church in Little Rock, IA. Following their marriage Lois and Ben farmed in the Little Rock area living on farms in Iowa and Minnesota. To this union four children were born, Connie, Bonnie, Rodney and Kathy. Lois was a life member of the First Presbyterian Church in Little Rock. She enjoyed keeping everything clean, cooking, baking (cookies with real butter), embroidery and talking on the phone.

Lois is survived by her three daughters, Connie (Wendell) Harms, Bonnie (Ronald) Venenga of Little Rock, IA and Kathy (Mark) Perkins of Ellsworth, MN; daughter-in-law, Joleen Odens of Little Rock, IA; grandchildren, Rochelle (Curt) Van Tilburg, LaRae (Robert) Elliott, Terry (Lisa) Harms, Natalie Harms, Chad (Alissa) Harms, Gregory Venenga, Ronda (Ryan) Pottebaum, Carmen Venenga, Derek (Tara) Venenga, Jennifer (Aaron) Greve, Ryan Odens and Nicholas (Vanessa) Odens; great-grandchildren, Trevor Van Tilburg, Kaitlyn Van Tilburg (fiancé, Kelly Top), and Allie Van Tilburg, Robert and Karissa Harms, Oliver and Adeline Harms, Kaden and Jorgen Pottebaum, Lauren and Reese Venenga, Emily, Tyler and Carter Greve, and Taryn and Gracie Odens; step great-grandchildren, Bodie Osborn and Bretton Urban; brother, Don (Verla) Larson of Sibley, IA; sisters-in-law, Lucille Wessels of Sibley, IA and Irene Odens of Ellsworth, MN; brother-in-law, Larry (Rena) Odens of Gretna, NE; many nieces, nephews and other extended family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ben Odens; son, Rodney Odens; sister, Nina Trei and brother, Elgin Larson.

 


Banjo Martin Kruger

Banjo Martin Kruger, age 87, of Ocheyedan, Iowa passed away on Thursday, November 1, 2012 at the Country View Manor of Sibley.

Funeral Services will be Monday, November 5, 2012 at 10:30 A.M. at United Methodist Church in Ocheyedan. Rev. Shannon Pascual officiating. Burial in the Ocheyedan Township Cemetery in Ocheyedan.

Visitation will be Sunday, November 4, 2012 from 2:00 to 6:00 P.M. with the family present from 2:00 to 4:00 P.M. at the Andringa Funeral Chapel in Ocheyedan.
