Walter R. Hansen

Walter R. Hansen, 62, of Alton, IA, died Sunday, Nov. 11, 2012, at Orange City Area Health System Hospital in Orange City, IA, after a brief illness with cancer.

Funeral Service will be Thursday, Nov. 15, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. from St. Mary Catholic Church in Alton, IA with Rev. Terry Roder officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Visitation will be anytime after 4 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2012.  There will be a parish rosary at 5 p.m. and a vigil prayer service at 7:30 p.m., all at St. Mary Catholic Church in Alton.  Services have been entrusted to the Fisch Funeral Home & Monument of Remsen.  Condolences may be sent online to www.fischfh.com.

Walter was born Sept. 9, 1950, at LeMars, IA, the son of Joseph and Judith (Streff) Hansen. He was raised in the Alton area and graduated from Spalding Catholic High School in 1968. He then entered the 185th Air National Guard at Sioux City, IA, and after completing six months duty, was employed at the Sioux City Airbase. After leaving the guard, he was self- employed as a carpenter, worked for Mid-Sioux Opportunity, Inc. at Remsen and then Advance Brands at Orange City, IA.

He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church at Alton. He enjoyed helping on the family farm, attending auctions, fishing and boating and collecting antique tools. He was a supportive uncle, attending the various activities of nieces and nephews in the area. 

Survivors include 3 brothers and 2 sisters: James Hansen of Austin, TX and his children, Jennifer and Holly; JoAnn Hansen of Scottsdale, AZ; Edward and his wife Audrey Hansen of Alton and their children, Mark (Rita) Hansen, Kris (Paul) Althouse, Matthew (Tammy) Hansen, Lisa (Benjamin) Whitmore, Jenna (Craig) Anthofer; Carol Hansen and her husband Tom Dusbabek of Scottsdale, AZ and their children Joe and Aaron; Bob and his wife Brenda Hansen of Greenfield, IA and their children, Ross, Stephen, Tim and Lizz.

Preceded by: his parents, 2 sisters, Shirley and Debbie both in infancy and a nephew, Raymond Hansen in infancy.

Casket Bearers:Mark, Matthew, Stephen and Tim Hansen, Craig Anthofer, Paul Althouse.

Louis A. Kitchenmaster

Louis A. Kitchenmaster, age 95 of Rock Rapids, IA died on Sunday, November 11, 2012 at Rock Rapids Health Care Centre.

Funeral service will be 10:30 AM, Wednesday, Nov. 14th at Peace Lutheran Church in Rock Rapids, IA, with Rev. Mark Hansen officiating.

Burial will be at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery near Steen, MN.

Visitation will be Tuesday, Nov. 13th from 2:00 to 8:00 PM, with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Jurrens Funeral Home of Rock Rapids.

In Lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to Peace Lutheran Church or charity of choice.

Louis Albert William Kitchenmaster was born April 4, 1917 in Allison Township, Lyon County, Iowa, the son of John and Emma (Lauck) Kitchenmaster. He was raised on the family farm near Steen, Minnesota and attended the Allison Township #2 school. He was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church, at Steen, MN. After his education he remained on the family farm helping with the daily operation. At the age of 24, Louis’s father suddenly died leaving Louis to assume the responsibility for the farm duties. He was a proud farmer working the land for several years. He retired in 1980 and moved to a home in Rock Rapids, IA.

Louis enjoyed playing cards, car rides through the country side, family gatherings and watching the Minnesota Twins. His family will remember Louis as a kind and gentle man. This past Sunday, November 11th Louis died at Rock Rapids Health Care Centre at the age of 95.

He is survived by his siblings, Florence Kitchenmaster, Nora Ranschau, Norman Kitchenmaster, all of Rock Rapids, IA; Doris (husband, Pete) Stegenga of Sioux Falls, SD; eight nieces and nephews; and other extended family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Emma Kitchenmaster; two sisters, Ella Weber and Edna Kitchenmaster; two brothers-in-law, Harold Weber and Carl Ranschau; and sister-in-law, Margaret Kitchenmaster.


Ruth Van Ravenswaay

Ruth Van Ravenswaay, 86, of Sioux Center, IA died Saturday, November 10, 2012, at the Sioux Center Community Hospital.

Visitation will be held Thursday from 4-8PM, with the family present from 6-8PM at the Memorial Funeral Home of Sioux Center.

A funeral service will be held on Friday at 10AM at the First Christian Reformed Church with Rev. Mark Verbruggen officiating.  Interment will follow the service in Memory Gardens Cemetery of Sioux Center.

Alice Krueger, age 94, of Sibley, Iowa, passed away on Friday, November 9, 2012 at Sibley Nursing and Rehab in Sibley.

Her service will be 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, November 14, 2012 at the First Reformed Church in Sheldon, Iowa with Rev. David Brower ~ officiating. Graveside service will be held at 10:15 A.M. Wednesday, November 14, 2012 at East Lawn Cemetery in Sheldon.

Visitation will be Tuesday, November 13, 2012 from 3:00 – 7:00 P.M. with the family present from 6:00 – 7:00 P.M. at the Vander Ploeg Funeral Home in Sheldon.

Marlene Klein

Marlene Klein, age 73, of Sheldon, Iowa passed away on Wednesday, November 7, 2012, at Prairie View Home in Sanborn, Iowa.

Memorial Services will be Saturday, November 10, 2012 at 2:00 P.M. at the United Methodist Church in Sheldon. Rev. Marvin Lindley officiating.

Following the Memorial Service, burial of cremains will be at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church Cemetery in rural Hull, Iowa.

Visitation will be Friday, November 9, 2012 from 1:00 to 8:00 P.M. with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at the Andringa Funeral Home Sheldon Funeral Service in Sheldon.

Marlene Lillian Klein was born on August 26, 1939 in Little Rock, Iowa. She was the daughter of Franklin and Margaret (Christians) Clark. She lived her youth on the family farm outside of Little Rock and attended a country school. She attended Northwestern College in Orange City, Iowa.
Marlene married Michael Schwarzkopf of Little Rock and to this union was born, Sandra and Cynthia. She married Rex Klein of Rock Valley, Iowa on July 24, 1975 in Sheldon, Iowa and to this union was born, Rose. They lived in Sheldon. Rex passed away on December 23, 2000.
Marlene was employed for the Gibson Stores and was a manager with Tupperware for several years. She worked for the City of Sheldon, from 1985 to 2003 and then retired. She worked part-time for Pamida.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Sheldon, where she was active when she was able.
Rex and Marlene took vacations touring around the U.S.A. and Canada, on their motorcycles. She was a member of the Goldwing Road Riders Association Chapter S and Northwest Riders.
Marlene enjoyed crafts, cooking, reading, and watching the Minnesota Vikings and NASCAR. Her family and friends were the most important to her.
She passed away on Wednesday, November 7, 2012 at Prairie View Home in Sanborn.
Those left to cherish her memories are three daughters: Sandra and Willy Pedro of Sheldon, IA, Cynthia Jacobson of Manilla, IA, Rose and Cory Vander Pol of Primghar, IA; 7 grandchildren: Carmen Pedro, Amber Pedro, Billie Pedro, Dyllon Jacobson, Myranda Jacobson, Ashley Vander Pol, Courtney Vander Pol; one great-grandson: Gavyn Cooper Jacobson; one brother: Dennis and Crystal Clark of Little Rock, IA; one brother-in-law: Brad Klein; 2 sisters-in-law: Kae VandeBerg and Gayle Klein; special friend: Randy Odenbrett and his family, Chad Odenbrett and his sons Hunter, Hayden, and Andrew, Michael and Tricia Odengrett and their children, Zach, Kiha, Colin and Adellee; nieces, nephews and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband: Rex; her parents: Franklin and Margaret Clark; her parents-in-law: Robert and Frances Klein.
