Funeral service will be 11:00 AM, Tuesday, April 17th at United Methodist Church in Doon, IA, with Rev. Steven Swensen officiating.

Margaret M. Boone

Margaret M. Boone, age 86, of Boyden, Iowa passed away on Friday, April 13, 2012 at the Prairie View Retirement Home in Sanborn, Iowa.

Her service will be 11:00 A.M.  Tuesday, April 17, 2012 at the First Reformed Church in Boyden, Iowa with Rev. Matthew Draffen ~ officiating.

Graveside services will be Tuesday, April 17, 2012 at 10:15 A.M. at the Sheridan Township Cemetery in Boyden.

Visitation will be Monday, April 16, 2012 after 4:00pm with the family present from 5:00 – 7:00pm at the Vander Ploeg Funeral Home in Boyden.

Margaret Marie Boone, the daughter of Jacob and Anna (De Koning) De Zeeuw was born December 27, 1925 on the family farm near Sheldon, Iowa. She received her education at a Sioux County country school. On February 22, 1946, she was united in marriage to Erwin K. Boone at his parent’s family farm home in Sioux County, Iowa. They made their home on a farm southeast of Boyden. They retired from farming in 1991 and the couple moved into Boyden. Her husband preceded her in death on December 13, 1999 in Sheldon. Margaret continued to make her home in Boyden and moved to the Prairie View Retirement Home in Sanborn in January of 2012. She passed at Prairie View on Friday April 13, 2012, reaching the age of 86 years, 3 months and 16 days.

She was a lifelong member of the First Reformed Church in Boyden and was active in her church by teaching catechism, Sunday school and singing with the Senior Saints. She volunteered at Village Northwest and enjoyed spending time with her family and gardening.

Margaret is survived by four children and their families; Dianne and her husband, Tom Mathias of Flagstaff, Arizona and her children, Angi Hasenbank  and her son, Kaine Rolbiecki, Jason and Lucas Hasenbank; Sherry Schomaker of Sheldon, Iowa and her children, Brian and his wife, Wendy and their daughter, Alyx; Matt and his wife, Dawn and Amber and her husband, Travis Martin and their children, Elli and Gage; Renee and her husband, Galen Van Velzen of Sheldon, Iowa and their children, Nicole Van Velzen and Hilary and her husband, Daniel Engelsman and their children, Blake, Reese and Josie; Ken and his wife, Linda Boone of Sheldon and their children, Michelle and Ross Boone; brothers and sisters, Kathryn Oldenkamp, Lorraine and his wife, Hermina De Zeeuw; Joyce and her husband, Pete Smit; Ken and his wife, Elaine De Zeeuw and Cliff and his wife, Arleen De Zeeuw also other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, son-in-law, Bruce Schomaker; her parents, brothers and sisters, Paul De Zeeuw, Klaas De Zeeuw, Jacob De Zeeuw Jr., Delia Van Zee, Ann Blumeyer, Howard De Zeeuw, Kathryn in infancy and two infant brothers.

Tillie Roskam

Tille Roskam, age 92 of Rock Rapids, IA died Friday, April 13, 2012 at Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD

Funeral service will be 10:30 AM, Tuesday, April 17th at First Reformed Church in Rock Rapids, IA, with Rev. Dan Haggar and Rev. Katie Van Veldhuizen officiating.

Burial will follow at the River View Cemetery in Rock Rapids.

Visitation will be Monday, April 16th from 2:00 to 8:00 PM, with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the First Reformed Church of Rock Rapids.

Tillie Edna Roskam was born October 8, 1919 at Estelline, South Dakota, the daughter of Jacob and Elizabeth (Jonker) Schoeneman. At the age of five years she moved with her family to Ellsworth, MN. She started school there and later moved to various rural areas and attended country schools. In 1935 the family moved to Rock Rapids where she graduated from Wilson High School in Rock Rapids, IA.

Tillie was united in marriage to Dick Roskam on May 1, 1940 in Rock Rapids, IA. She was employed at Vander Wilt Hospital, Lyon County Sheriff’s Department, and Rock Rapids Health Care Centre. She helped her husband on many moving jobs and bookkeeping for Roskam Transportation.

She was a member of the First Reformed Church, active with Dorcus Circle and adult Sunday school. She was a member of “The Golden Age Club” and helped deliver “Meals on Wheels” for several years. She enjoyed general sewing, playing Dominos and was an avid reader. She also enjoyed camping and fishing with her husband and traveling with family. She will be remembered as a strong, loving mother and grandmother.

She is survived by two sons, Dennis Dean (Mary) Roskam of Red Wing, MN and Harvey Eugene (Nettie) Roskam of Rock Rapids, IA; seven grandchildren, Richard (Denise) Roskam of Rock Rapids, IA, Dawn (Mike) Johnson of Sioux Falls, SD, Lee (Annette) Roskam of Newark, DE, Janelle (Garrett) Jaenke of Iowa Falls, IA, Katy Roskam of Woodbury, MN, Molly (Monty) Nelson of Bend, OR and Noelle Roskam (fiancée, Sean Bibus) Great Falls, MT; nine great-grandchildren; sister, Mavis Herman of Luverne, MN; and many other extended family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dick Roskam; parents, Jacob and Elizabeth Schoeneman; two brothers, Harvey and Dick Schoeneman; and one sister, Grace DeBeer.

William Hesebeck

William Hesebeck, age 51, of Orange City, Iowa passed away on Tuesday, April 10, 2012 at the University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City, Iowa.

Memorial services will be at 10:30am Saturday, April 14, 2012 at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Sheldon, Iowa with Rev. Daniel Hart officiating. Burial with a graveside service will be at 9:00am Saturday, April 14, 2012 in the Hillside Cemetery in Merrill, Iowa.

Visitation will be Friday, April 13, 2012 after 3:00pm with the family present from 5:00 – 7:00pm at the Vander Ploeg Funeral Home in Sheldon.

William Lee Hesebeck, the son of Albert and Dorothy (Blackmore) Hesebeck was born July 31, 1960 in Sheldon, Iowa, where he received his education. Bill drove truck for Smoken Lux/Meerdink Inc. out of Middleburg, Iowa for several years. He passed away on Tuesday, April 10, 2012 at the University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City, Iowa reaching the age of 51 years, 8 months and 10 days.

He was a past member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Sheldon. He was an active member of the Christian Motorcycle Association and enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Bill is survived by his three children, a son and his wife, Josh and Annie Hesebeck of Granville, Iowa; and two daughters, Heather Hesebeck and her fiancé, Erice Franke of Sheldon, Iowa and Traci and her husband, Jeremy Simich of Alton, Iowa; 13 grandchildren, Austin, Aidan, Issac, Izabelle, Lucian, Layla, Jaccob, Erika, Landon, Blake, Andrew, Cayden John and Keagan; a sister, Catherine Lode of Fort Worth, Texas; a brother and his wife, Michael and Brenda Hesebeck of Springfield, Missouri and many nieces, nephews and other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers, Dennis, Lennis and Robert Hesebeck; and his maternal and paternal grandparents.

Fred Boer

Fred Boer, age 85 of Sanborn, IA passed away at Spirit Lake, Iowa on Monday, April 9, 2012.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, April 13th at 10:30 a.m. at the Cornerstone United Reformed Church in Sanborn.

Rev. Daniel Donovan will be officiating. Visitation will begin at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 12th at the church with the family present from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday evening. Burial will be at West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City, IA.

Our beloved husband, father and grandfather, Frederick Allen Boer was born to Jacob and Ethel Holtrop Boer on January 8, 1927 at Doon, IA. The Lord called him home to glory on April 9, 2012 while he was doing what he loved, fishing.

He received his elementary education at country school near Doon, IA and at the Doon Christian School. At age 17, he enlisted in the Navy and served in Guam and the South Pacific until the end of World War II. After returning from military service, he began farming near Sheldon, IA.

On May 6, 1949 he was united in marriage with Gerry Van Bruggen. God blessed this union with seven children, 22 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and a great-great grandchild. This family was led through the joys of life, as well as the difficult times by his unwavering faith in his Savior.

He delighted in spending time with family and friends, especially when it involved being outdoors in God’s beautiful creation hunting or fishing.

Nothing pleased him more than taking care of his family and his wisdom and counsel were always appreciated. He continued to work in his disc sharpening business until his death, when not fishing or helping his family.

He was a former elder in the Sanborn Christian Reformed church and was an active member of the Cornerstone United Reformed Church in Sanborn, IA.

Looking forward to a blessed reunion in glory are his wife, Gerry; four sons, Gary, and wife Lou Ann, Sioux Falls, SD; Jeff, and wife Jeannie, Hialeah, FL; Dave, and wife Cheryl, Sioux Falls, SD; Mike, and wife Sherry, Long Beach, CA; and two daughters, Judy Van Engen, and husband Allen, Inwood, IA and Sue Koele, and husband Terry, Littleton, CO; six brothers, Henry, and wife Corina; Jeen, and wife Joan; Ed, and wife Fran; Harlan, and wife Joan; Dale, and wife Karen, and Roger; three sisters, Myrtle Bootsma; Alvina Hiemstra; and Phyllis Steensma, and husband Andy; twenty-two grandchildren, twenty-two great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, as well as a host of nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in being called to glory were his parents, Jacob and Ethel; his brother-in-law Ralph Bootsma; his brother-in-law Gary Hiemstra; a son, Mark; and a grandson, Kirk Van Engen.

John L. Mammenga

John L. Mammenga, age 78 of Little Rock, IA died Sunday, April 8, 2012 at the Good Samaritan Center in George, IA.

Funeral service will take place 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 11th, 2012 at First Baptist Church, George, IA with Rev. Stephen May officiating. Burial will follow at Evergreen Lawn Cemetery in George.

Visitation will be Tuesday, April 10th, 2012 from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with family present from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Jurrens Funeral Home in George, IA.

John Loren Mammenga was born August 4, 1933 in George, IA to William and Minnie (Thiele) Mammenga. He was raised and received his education in George. John entered the United States Army and served 2 years before his discharge in December of 1955. On September 28, 1957 he was united in marriage to Alvira Mae Dreessen. To this union six children were born. The couple and family made their home primarily in the Sibley/Little Rock area and spent several years in Eden, South Dakota. A carpenter by trade, John spent the bulk of his career self-employed. He could easily be described as a Jack-of-all-trades and could fix almost anything. He was also fond of fixing and operating old gas single piston engines, baking, canning and gardening. But his true passion of a pastime was fishing. He spent many happy hours in search of the ‘big one’. His family will remember him fondly. He will be greatly missed.

John is survived by his children, Bill (Marilyn) Mammenga of Rock Rapids, IA, Marge Smith of Troy, MO, Cindy Wilgers of Sioux Falls, SD, Loren (Melissa) Mammenga of Little Rock, IA, and Vonda Macklin of Galena, KS; special nephew, Dennis Mammenga; brother, Orval (Pat) Mammenga of Prescott Valley, AZ; sisters, Mick (Donald) O’Conner of Ft. Dodge, IA, Margaret Leask of Battle Creek, MI, Luella Davis of Cedar Rapids, IA, and Helen Biedit of Waterloo, IA; nieces, nephews and other extended family members.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 49 years, Alvira; son, Johnny Mammenga; twin brothers, Louis and Levi; sisters, Francis Brandma and Clara Garrett; brothers, William Mammenga and William Mammenga.
