Joyce Lundt

Joyce Lundt, age 87 of Sanborn, formerly of Linn Grove, passed away on Tuesday, June 26 at the Prairie View Nursing Home in Sanborn.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30A.M., Friday, June 29, 2012 at the Warner Chapel in Spencer. Interment will be at the Riverside Cemetery of Spencer, Iowa.

Visitation will begin after 12 noon on Thursday, with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M., Thursday evening at the Warner Funeral Home in Spencer.

Warner Funeral Home of Spencer is in charge of arrangements.


Mary Ann Orr

Mary Ann Orr, age 75 of Rock Rapids, IA, formerly of Laurens, IA passed away Monday, June 25, 2012 at Rock Rapids Health Centre in Rock Rapids, IA.

Funeral service will be 11:00 AM, Monday, July 2nd at United Methodist Church in Rock Rapids, IA, with Rev. Dean Shelly officiating.

Burial is planned for 2:00 PM, Monday afternoon at East Side Cemetery in Estherville, IA.

Visitation will be Monday morning, from 9:00 AM until the hour of service at the United Methodist Church in Rock Rapids.

Jurrens Funeral Home of Rock Rapids is in charge of arrangements.

Mary Ann blessed the world with her birth on April 15, 1937 in Estherville, Iowa, as the daughter of George Curtis and Kathryn Marie (Van Der Stoep) Vedder. She attended the Estherville Community Schools and graduated from high school in 1955. Her dream was to be a teacher so she continued her education at Estherville Junior College earning her teaching certificate. She began teaching in Mallard, IA, until August 2, 1959, when she was united in marriage to Kenneth L. Jacobson at the United Methodist Church in Estherville. Two daughters were born to that union, Marilee Kay and Ann Marie. The family lived in various places, such as Graettinger, IA, Emmetsburg, IA and Urbandale, IA. Mary Ann continued teaching in the communities of Emmetsburg and Adel with her specialty being lower elementary and remedial reading. November 1969 the family was involved in a car accident which resulted in Kenneth’s death on November 29, 1969. Mary Ann married Robert M. Orr on March 31, 1972. They made their home in Laurens, IA, where she substitute taught and owned and operated the “Bargain Basement”. She also managed the Laurens Retirement housing Corporation for a couple years.

Mary Ann put her heart into every community she called home. She touched many lives through her dedication and volunteerism. As a member of Laurens United Methodist Church, she taught Sunday school, was a youth group leader and a United Methodist Women’s officer. She served as president of the library board, was a member of the foundation board, head start board and an organizer of the pre-school in Laurens. She was a strong advocate and teacher for the GED program with Iowa Central Community College in Ft. Dodge, IA, where she once had a scholarship in her name. Being around children gave her joy and she delighted in portraying Mrs. Santa Claus at the holidays, and acting with the Downtown Drama Theatre Company. She volunteered with the Girl Scouts and enjoyed following her grandchildren’s events. She looked forward to traveling with Bob, playing cards, and spending time with relatives and friends. Celebrating the holidays and milestones of family was her specialty. Mary Ann was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother. She loved her family more than anything and was truly proud of her Dutch heritage.

Mary Ann is survived by her husband of 40 years, Robert M. Orr of Rock Rapids, IA; two daughters, Marilee (Dave) Schleusner of Rock Rapids, IA and Ann (Ryan) Westphal of Cheshire, CT; two granddaughters, Natalie Schleusner of Mankato, MN and Kendra Schleusner of Rock Rapids, IA; one brother Verlyn (Dorothy) Vedder of Estherville, IA; two sisters-in-law, Lois (Ralph) Torreson of Estherville, IA and Marjorie (Roger) Steward of Clear Lake, IA; two brothers-in-law, Lauren Orr of Emmetsburg, IA and Dale Orr of St. Louis, MO; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by parents; her grandson, Alexander Westphal; two sisters, Mildred Huntsinger and Kathleen Higgins; and two brothers, George Jr. Vedder and Frank Vedder.

 


Caroline Wheeler

Caroline Wheeler, age 87, of Sibley, Iowa passed away on Monday, June 25, 2012 at Sibley Nursing and Rehab in Sibley.

Funeral Services will be Saturday, June 30, 2012 at 10:30 A.M. at the United Church of Christ Congregational. Rev. Kelly Volk officiating. Burial at the Holman Township Cemetery in Sibley.

John May

John May, age 97 of Sibley, IA, formerly of Ashton, IA died Monday, June 25, 2012 at Country View Manor in Sibley, IA.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM, Saturday, June 30th at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ashton, IA, with Fr. John Vakulskas as celebrant.

Visitation will be Friday, June 29th from 2:00 to 8:00 PM, with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ashton.  There will be a Rosary at 4:00 PM and a Vigil service at 7:30 PM Friday evening.


Alma De Buhr

Alma De Buhr, age 85 of Sioux Falls, SD, formerly of Rock Rapids, IA died Monday, June 25, 2012 at the Good Samaritan Society in Canton, SD. Funeral service will be 10:30 AM, Wednesday, June 27th at the First Reformed Church in Rock Rapids. Burial will follow at the Bethel Reformed Cemetery, rural Ellsworth, MN.

Visitation will be Tuesday, June 26th from 4:00 to 8:00 PM, with family present from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Jurrens Funeral Home of Rock Rapids.


William L. Andersen

William L. Andersen, age 41, of LeMars, Iowa and formerly of Sheldon, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, June 24, 2012 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Sioux City, Iowa.

Memorial services will be 10:30 A.M. Thursday, June 28, 2012 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Sheldon, Iowa with Rev. George Clausen ~ Officiating.  Graveside services will be 10:00 A.M. Thursday, June 28, 2012 at St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery in Sheldon, Iowa.

Visitation will be after 3:00 P.M. on Wednesday, June 27, 2012 with family present from 5 – 7 P.M. at the Vander Ploeg Funeral Home in Sheldon, Iowa.

William “Bill” Lawrence Andersen, the son of Don and Linda (Bannick) Andersen was born on October 30, 1970 in Sheldon, Iowa. Bill graduated from MOC Floyd Valley High School in Orange City. While attending MOC, Bill managed the boys’ basketball state championship team. Going to Des Moines and being a part of the team was a very exciting time for Bill. After graduation he attended college in Fort Dodge to become a radio announcer. He worked at KIWA in Sheldon for one summer.

Bill lived in several towns before moving to LeMars, Iowa where he became a resident of the Pride Group. He lived on his own for 6 years. He worked at Wells Blue Bunny for a while and then got a job at the Holiday Inn Express which he truly loved and they loved him. Bill became ill on May 17th and was in the LeMars Hospital before being transferred to St. Luke’s in Sioux City on the 18th of May. He fought a good fight but God choose to take him on Sunday, June 24, 2012 reaching the age of 41 years, 7 months and 24 days.

Bill was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Sheldon. His interests were reading, basketball, eating at the Pizza Ranch with his parents and Coca-Cola. His favorite thing was his Sunday afternoon phone calls with his mom.

Left behind to cherish his memories is his mom, Linda Andersen of Sheldon, Iowa; one cousin, Clara Bannick of Rock Valley, Iowa; and several other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Donald Andersen; and his maternal grandparents, William and Hattie Bannick and paternal grandparents, Lawrence and Leona Andersen; and two uncles, David Andersen and Roger Bannick.
