Rex Ditto, age 84 of Urbandale, IA, formerly of Sibley, IA died Saturday, June 16, 2012 at the Urbandale Nursing & Rehab Center in Urbandale, IA.

Funeral service will be 10:30 AM, Tuesday, June 19th at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sibley, IA, with Rev. Jim Berka officiating.

Burial will follow at Holman Township Cemetery in Sibley.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the services at the church Tuesday morning at the church.

Jurrens Funeral Home of Sibley is in charge of services.

Gerald Kreykes, age 89, of Sheldon, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, June 16, 2012 at Sanford Senior Care in Sheldon.

Memorial Services will be Tuesday, June 19, 2012 at 1:30 P.M. at Bethel Reformed Church in Sheldon. Pastor Troy Van Beek officiating.

Graveside Service will be Tuesday, June 19 at 12:45 P.M. at East Lawn Cemetery in Sheldon.

Mr. Frank Katje, age 89, of Orange City, passed away on Friday, June 15, 2012, at his residence.

There will be a memorial service on Wednesday, June 20, at 2:00pm, at the Redeemer United Reformed Church in Orange City.  The Rev. Todd De Rooy will officiate.  Interment will be prior to the service at the West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City.  There will be a prayer service on Wednesday, at 12:45pm, at the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City.

Visitation will be after 4:00pm on Tuesday, with the family present from 5:00pm to 7:00pm, at the funeral home.


Clara Bonestroo

Clara D. Bonestroo, age 88, of Sheldon,Iowa passed away onFriday, June 15, 2012 at the Sanford Health Center Senior Care in Sheldon,Iowa.

Her service will be 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, June 19, 2012at the United Methodist Church in Sheldon with Rev. Marvin Lindley ~ Officiating. Burial will be in the East Lawn Cemetery in Sheldon, Iowa.

Visitation will be after 3:00 P.M. Monday, June 18, 2012 with the family present from 6 to 8 P.M.at the Vander Ploeg Funeral Home in Sheldon.

Clara D. Bonestroo was born November 18, 1923to Herman and Reintge (Hamstra) Dirksen on the family homestead near Ireton, Iowa. On October 28, 1943, she was united in marriage to Fred Bonestroo in Perkins,Iowa. After Fred was discharged from the service they resided inRock Valley,Iowa until 1956 when they moved to Sheldon where they raised their family. Fred and Clara enjoyed traveling together and wintering in California and Texas. They had worked together at the Christian Retirement Home in Sheldon. Fred preceded her in death on November 14, 2001 in Sheldon. Clara had made her home in the Christian Retirement Home, Fieldcrest and for a few days at Senior Care. Clara passed away on Friday June 15, 2012at Senior Care reaching the age of 88 years, 6 months and 27 days.

Clara was a member of theUnited Methodist Church and the V.F.W. Auxiliary. She enjoyed quilting with other church members and was known for her beautiful crocheted afghans. She gave dozens away and all of her children and grandchildren have at least one of her afghans. She also made baby blankets for her grandchildren and great grandchildren as well as numerous friends. She also enjoyed bowling and reading.

Clara will always be remembered for her generous heart. She loved her family deeply and enjoyed spending time with them.

Left to cherish her memory are four daughters: Arlene and Bob Sterler of Sheldon; Lynn and Dean Seivert of Sheldon; Pat and Larry Snyder of Fremont, NE.; Pam and Darrell Kruger of Tea, SD; eleven grandchildren: Karen (Craig) Christians, Blue Earth, MN; Shelly(Russ) Palmer, Rock Rapids, IA; Bill (Renee) Sterler Sanborn, IA; Troy (Dawn)Seivert, Sheldon, IA; Robbie (Darrin) Korthals Rock Rapids, IA; Kerri (Bryan) Peterson, Lincoln, NE; Tim (Amy) Snyder, Lincoln, NE; Rachel (Adam) Jorgensen; Gilbert, AZ.; Dave (Sally) Snyder, Omaha, NE; Darrell Kruger Jr., Tea, SD; Elizabeth Kruger and fiancée, Zach Smith; Tea, SD; twenty one great grandchildren; Cody, Brandon and Courtney Christians; Travis and Ryan Sterler; Dayna and Dalton Korthals; Dominic and Sierra Seivert; Kirsten and McKinzie Peterson; Nick, Riley, Tyler Deubelbeiss, Eli Brown and Lily Snyder; Will and Sean Snyder; and Dale, Davis and Drew Jorgensen, a sister, Rena Niemeyer; brother-in-law, Gerald (Gert) Bonestroo; sister-in-laws, Anne Bonestroo, Agnes Bonestroo, Betty Bonestroo, Henrietta Bonestroo and Alberta Rozeboom, also many nieces, nephews and friends.

Clara was preceded in death by Fred, her beloved husband of 58 years, a great granddaughter, her parents, two brothers and three sisters.


Harold Vande Berg

Harold Vande Berg, age 87 of Sibley, IA died Thursday, June 14, 2012 at Sibley Nursing & Rehab Center in Sibley, IA.

Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Monday June 18th, 2012 at First Reformed Church in Sibley with Pastor Norm Erickson officiating.

Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery in Rock Rapids, IA.

Visitation will be Sunday, June 17th from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with family present from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the First Reformed Church is Sibley.

Harold Roy Vande Berg was born March 7, 1925 in Archer, IA to Ralph and Carrie (Ganzevoort) Vande Berg. He received his education and graduated from Hospers High School in 1944. Harold was recruited by the University of Iowa as a Basketball player but decided to join the Navy instead and was honorably medically discharged after severely injuring his knee. On March 15, 1948 he was united in marriage to Lois T. Brink. Over the years the couple made their homes in Hospers, Sioux Falls, Rock Valley, Rock Rapids, Larchwood, Inwood, Spirit Lake and finally Sibley. Harold’s last employment was with Lyon County running heavy equipment on the road crew. Before that he was employed with Kooiker Chevrolet as service manager, Morton Moe Ford, Rock Rapids Motors, Sam Van Aabema Impliment in Rock Valley, Prather Pontiac in Sioux Falls, Berg and Ole Repair shop, and was in business with Clifford (Ole) Monson in Hospers. Harold was a Deacon and Catechism Teacher at the First Reformed Church in Rock Rapids and also enjoyed doing missionary work in Mexico with an orphanage and churches and giving to the needy. He belonged to the American Legion, Rock Rapids Kiwanis Club, and served as Scout Master in Rock Rapids. He was fond of fishing, gardening and tinkering (canoey). Harold was an avid sports fan as he enjoyed following the Iowa Hawkeyes, Detroit Tigers and Chicago Bears. He was also a very good athlete himself as a basketball player in his younger years and then a golfer, bowler and any other sport he competed in. Mostly Harold enjoyed his family. He loved spending time with them, especially going to sporting events his grandchildren and great-grandchildren were involved with. This past Thursday Harold passed away at the Sibley Nursing and Rehab Center at the age of 87. He will be greatly missed.

Harold is survived by his wife of 64 years, Lois Vande Berg; his children, daughters, Connie (Raymond) Eberts of Sioux Falls, SD, Susette (Gordon) Faber of Rock Rapids, IA; son, Randy (Kelli) Vande Berg of Sibley, IA; daughter, Kimberly (Robert) McCoy of Sioux Falls, SD; and foster daughter, Anita (Russell) Hazel of Hudson, SD; 9 grandchildren and 3 foster-grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren and 2 foster-great-grandchildren; sister, Lavonne (John) Van Surksum; brother-n-law, Clifford Monson; sister-in-law, Elizabeth “Tootie” Vande Berg.

He was preceded in death by his father, Ralph Van De Berg; mother, Carrie (Ganzevoort) Van De Berg; sisters, Magdalene (James) Van Berkum, Angeline (Peter) Zwagerman, Harriet (Theodore) Van Zandbergen, Helen Monson; brothers, Kenneth Vande Berg, Harold Cyril Vande Berg.

 


Roy Dale “Buddy” Mitts

Roy Dale “Buddy” Mitts, age 50, of Sheldon, Iowa passed away on Saturday, June 9, 2012 at his residence near Sheldon, Iowa.

Celebration of life potluck will be from 1 – 4 P.M. Sunday, June 17, 2012 at the Sheldon City Park.

Roy Dale “Buddy” Mitts, the son of Roy Dale Mitts Sr. and Martha Pridemore, was born May 22, 1962 in Macon, Missouri. He received his education and graduated from Centralia High School in Centralia, Illinois. On March 4, 1997 he was united in marriage to Kimberly Perry in Tempe, Arizona. Buddy was a truck driver by trade, but most of all just loved to travel and explore. Buddy was a loving husband, father, brother and friend. He passed away at his home on June 9, 2012, reaching the age of 50 years and 18 days.

Buddy was a loyal hobbyist and spent his spare time collecting and building model cars, aircraft and most recently military vehicles. He also loved to build scary creatures for his brother. Buddy loved any form of trivia – music, lyrics, military knowledge, history or actors in movies. Buddy also loved writing song lyrics.

Buddy leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 23 years, Kim (Mitts) Perry; three sons, Dustin and his wife, Dan’elle Perry; Joshua Mitts and Michael Cole; three grandchildren, Zoee Perry, Tristan Mitts and Kiera Rechelhoff; a brother, Jimmie Mitts; sisters, Linnie (Harry) Signor; Mary Ellen (Seabern) Barry; Thelma Pridemore and Karen (Mark) Schreiber; several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Roy Dale Mitts Sr. and his mother, Martha Pridemore; a sister, Faye Davidson; two great nephews, Kenneth Helm and Nathan Farrell and all his grandparents.
