College Basketball Wrap For Wednesday, January 9th

basketballWomen’s Basketball:  #10 Northwestern used a big second half to come back and defeat #24 Dakota Wesleyan 69-66 in GPAC women’s basketball.

The Dordt College Defenders withstood a late run by the Dakota State Lady Ts, holding on to win 81-79 in a non-conference game played in Madison, SD Wednesday. With the victory the Defender women improve to 11-9 on the season while the Lady Ts fall to 4-9 on the year.

Men’s Basketball: #7 Northwestern held off Dakota Wesleyan 77-74 in GPAC men’s basketball.

The Dordt College Defenders dropped their first non-conference game of the season, falling to Dakota State 83-65 in Madison, South Dakota Wednesday The loss was the first for Dordt College since December 8 and snaps a six game win streak. Dordt College falls to 15-4 on the season while the Trojans improve to 11-4 overall and 4-4 against GPAC opponents.

Spencer Downs Sheldon South O’Brien in Non-Conference Wrestling

wrestling gearSheldon South O’Brien wrestlers hosted Spencer Tuesday night in a non conference dual at Orab Gym. The Tigers who have rolled up a number of 70 point totals in duals this year defeated the Orabs 56-24.

Sheldon South O’Brien points all came on pins. The match began at 138 pounds and Sheldon won four matches in a roll all by fall beginning with Austin Rohrs at 182. He pinned his opponent in 3:17. at 195 Brytton Kelleher won by pin in 1:52. Bryce Kelleher won by fall in: 36 seconds at 220 and then it was Clayton Scheibler with a fall in: 57 seconds at 285.

Spencer got pins from Tyson Samsel at 138, Blaine Johnson at 170 and John Christopherson at 126.

 

 

Sheldon South O’Brien forfeited at 145, 106, 113 and 132 pounds.


Remaining Hunting Seasons Starting to Close in Iowa

DNR logoIowa’s pheasant, late muzzleloader and archery deer, and fall turkey seasons close on Thursday January 10th. The January antlerless deer season is Friday January 11th to Sunday January 20th. Furbearer seasons, squirrel, quail, partridge and grouse remain open until Thursday January 31st.

Rabbit season is open until February 28th. Crow season is Monday January 14th to March 31st and Pigeon season closes on March 31st. Beaver trapping season closes on April 15th.

For waterfowl in the south zone, the Canada goose season closes Friday January 11th and the light goose season closes January 18th. In the Missouri River zone, the Canada goose season and light goose season both close January 18th. The light goose season in the north zone closes Sunday January 13th.

The light goose conservation order season is open Saturday January 19th to April 15th statewide. Additional licenses and fees apply.
Also keep in mind all 2012 Iowa hunting and fishing licenses expire on Thursday January 10th. All hunters and anglers will need a 2013 license to hunt or fish beginning Friday January 11th.
