Orab Fourth Quarter Comeback Falls Just Short


A fourth quarter comeback attempt came up just short for the Sheldon Orabs as they fell 56-53 to the Rebels of Sioux Central Tuesday night in the Class 2A Region 1 Quarterfinals at Sioux Rapids.

The Rebels led at all the breaks as they opened a 22-11 first quarter lead and were up by 11 at halftime as well 38-27. At the end of three the Sioux Central lead was down to eight points at 46-38. Abbie Provost hit a three pointer with time running down to get the lead to two points. The Rebels Hallie Ehlers hit one-of-two at the line to put the lead back at three and that would be the final margin.

Morgan Walker hit for a game high 23 points for the Rebels. She was joined in double figures by Ehlers with 13 including 4-of -5 free throw shooting in the fourth quarter. As a team Sioux Central Would hit 8-of-12 from the line in the final quarter.

Sheldon was led by senior Crystal Rodger with 18 points on six three point buckets on the night. Michelle Fischer another senior joined her in double figures with 10 points.

With the loss Sheldon ends the season at 8-15. Sioux Central now 20-3 on the season advances to the Region Semifinals Friday night at the Sheldon High School Gym. They will meet fifth ranked Western Christian. The Wolfpack advanced with a 70-39 home win over Sibley Ocheyedan Tuesday night.

Dordt Men Fourth in Coaches Top 25


Dordt College held the No. 4 spot in the NAIA Division II Mens Basketball Coaches Poll released late Monday, February 13. This marked the second week in a row the Defenders were ranked fourth.

Dordt won three games last week to improve to 25-3 for the season and clinched the regular season Great Plains Athletic Conference Championship, the top seed in the post-season GPAC Tournament and an automatic berth in the NAIA Division II National Tournament March 7-13.
The Defenders are one of six teams in the poll with three losses. Oregon Tech moved to No. 1 this week, overtaking Northwood (Florida) who stands No. 2. Davenport (Michigan), the winner of the Wolverine-Hoosier Conference regular season title is No. 3. Dordt took one number one vote in the poll and has 343 points in the voting.

The Great Plains Athletic Conference is also represented by Northwestern (15) and Briar Cliff (18) in the weekly poll. Midland and Morningside are both in the receiving votes category.

Dordt College will conclude the regular season on Saturday, February 18 at Doane in Crete, Nebraska and will host a Great Plains Athletic Conference quarterfinal round contest on Wednesday, February 22.
