Northwest Iowa — The final week of the regular season finds Sheldon at home against Cherokee with a shot at the playoffs but needing a win and some help. Sheldon posted a 34-6 win at Pocahontas last Friday to move to 6-2 on the year and 4-2 in the District. Cherokee fell 30-6 at Estherville Lincoln Central. The Braves are coming in at 1-7 on the year and 1-5 in the district.
Des Moines Iowa — Qualifying for the State Cross Country Meet in all classes held Thursday across the state. The Sheldon boys won the team title at their event at South Central Calhoun.
Kathleen Richter, age 86, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, formerly of Ashton, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, October 18, 2017 at Tieszen Memorial Home in Marion, South Dakota.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, October 23, 2017 at 10:30 A.M. at St. Marys Catholic Church in Ashton, Iowa. Father Siby Punnoose and Father Kevin Richter officiating.

Northwest Iowa — Class 3A tournament volleyball began with the Regional quarterfinal round Wednesday night. Sheldon opened at home with a win over Estherville Lincoln Central in a match broadcast on KIWA FM 105.3.
The final rankings for Classes 3A through 5A are out and Sioux Center ends their year ranked atop Class 3A, and MOC-Floyd Valley slides down to #10.
