Paullina Woman Injured When SUV Rolls

Peterson, Iowa — A Paullina woman was injured after rolling her SUV east of Peterson in the wee hours of Saturday morning.

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office says their Communications Center received a report shortly before 2:30 am Saturday, single-vehicle rollover crash on 500th Street, east of Peterson.

Deputies say the call came from a female who reported that she rolled her vehicle, and that she was still in the vehicle and it was on its top.

Clay County deputies located 32-year old Audrey Branunersrither, of Paullina, in the 1900 mile of 500th St. Authorities say it was determined through an investigation that she had swerved to avoid a deer. Deputies say her 2009 Nissan Pathfinder then left the roadway and when she re-entered the roadway she lost control of her vehicle, skidding across the road and entering the south ditch. Deputies say she entered the ditch backward, hit a tree causing her vehicle to flip over and land on its top. Due to a very steep ravine that she entered, her vehicle then rolled approximately 2 times and came to rest on its top, according to authorities.

According to authorities, Branunersrither reported minor injuries and was transported to the Spencer Municipal Hospital. Deputies say they believe alcohol may have played a role in the crash.

Her vehicle was a total loss. Clay County deputies were assisted at the scene by the Spencer Police Department, Peterson Fire and Rescue, Sioux Rapids Fire and Rescue, Spencer Ambulance, Bud’s Service and Iowa DOT.
