Fire Takes Out Storage Shed, Cars, Other Contents Near Alvord

Alvord, Iowa — A farm shed and its contents were destroyed in a fire on Saturday, December 14, 2024, near Alvord.

According to Alvord Fire Chief Tanner Van Middendorp, at about 4:20 p.m., the Alvord Fire Department was called to the report of a shed on fire at 2158 Dipper Avenue, four miles west and a half a mile south of Alvord.

The chief says the fire department saw the approximately 30×60′ shed fully engulfed as they approached the scene. He says they used an exterior attack and protected other buildings on the site.

Van Middendorp says no injuries were reported to people, pets, or livestock.

The fire department was assisted by the Doon Fire Department as per their auto-aid agreement.

He says the cause of the fire is undetermined.

Chief Van Middendorp reports that there was at least $100,000 in damage, including the structure and its contents which included vehicles, both newer and older.

He says the firefighters who responded were on the scene for about two and a half hours.
