Eight People To Hospital When Two Vehicles Collide Near Melvin

Melvin, Iowa — Eight people were taken the hospital in the aftermath of a two-vehicle mishap near Melvin shortly before noon Wednesday.

According to the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office, the crash occurred at 11:55 Wednesday morning at the intersection of Highway 59 and 220th Street, or about 3 miles north of Melvin.

Deputies say 29-year-old Kelsey Jo Conner, of Omaha, was driving a 2015 Chevy Traverse westbound on 220th Street and failed to stop at the stop sign at the intersection of Highway 59, collided with a 2014 Dodge minivan driven by 24-year-old Thressa Joan Clark, of Sibley, which was northbound on Highway 59. Deputies say both vehicles came to rest on a property in the northwest corner of the intersection, with that property receiving approximately $1,500 in damage.

Deputies say Connor’s Chevy received approximately $15,000 in damage while Clark’s minivan received approximately $10,000 in damage.

Conner and two juvenile passengers in her car were transported to the Osceola Community Hospital by the Sibley Ambulance. Clark, a female passenger, and three juvenile passengers in her minivan were transported to the Osceola Community Hospital by the Ashton Ambulance and Sibley Ambulance.

Conner was issued a citation for Failure to Obey Stop Sign, according to authorities.

Melvin Ambulance and Melvin Fire Department also assisted deputies at the scene.
