Rock Rapids, Iowa — $25,000 in damage was reported after a piece of heavy equipment struck a utility box and light pole in Rock Rapids late Friday afternoon.

According to a release from the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office, about 5:00 Friday afternoon (August 23rd), a 1974 Caterpillar wheelloader/payloader, owned and operated by Harlan Classen, was northbound headed for North 3rd Avenue East in Rock Rapids, when the machine lost power crossing Highway 9, causing its steering and brakes to fail.
