Felony Charge Follows Drive Through Corn Field

Paullina, Iowa — A Paullina woman faces a felony charge after an incident early Sunday near Paullina.

According to court records, the charge of 2nd Degree Criminal Mischief, which is a Class D Felony, against 24-year old Mikka Marie Baker, arose from an incident in which she allegedly did damage to a cornfield and fence in the 500 block of B-52, south of Paullina.

Court records indicate that Baker allegedly told deputies that she swerved to miss a deer in the roadway. Authorities say the pickup she was driving then left the road, went through the passenger-side ditch, through a fence and into a corn field. According to court records, Baker is accused of then driving around the corn field, and proceeding through the fence a second time before becoming stuck in the mud.

Authorities estimate the damage to the corn field and the fence at approximately $15-hundred.

Court records say Baker was arrested by an O’Brien County deputy, and placed in the O’Brien County Jail in Primghar.
