Pursuit Injures Deputy, Sends Trio To Jail

Osceola County, Iowa — Three people were in jail, and an Osceola County Deputy was injured, as the result of a pursuit on Highway 60 Tuesday (November 21st).

Osceola County authorities say they received a report of a reckless driver northbound on Highway 60. An Osceola County Deputy located the vehicle and discovered that the vehicle was reported stolen from Columbia Heights, Minnesota, according to authorities. The Deputy attempted to stop the vehicle but it refused to stop. During the pursuit, the allegedly stolen vehicle crashed into an Osceola County patrol car which caused disabling damage to the patrol car and minor injuries to the Deputy.

The driver and two passengers of the fleeing vehicle were taken into custody. The driver, according to the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office, was 20-year old Selena Renee Vasquez of Sioux City. Deputies say Vasquez was charged with: Eluding, a class D Felony; 2nd-degree Theft, a class D felony; Assault with a Dangerous Weapon, a class D felony; and Operating while Intoxicated -1st Offense, a Serious Misdemeanor. Vasquez was reportedly also charged with Speeding, Failure to have a Valid Driver’s License, Reckless Driving, and Failure to Obey a Traffic Control Device.

One passenger in the vehicle, 28-year old Matthew Thomas White of Minneapolis, was charged with: 2nd-Degree Theft, a class D felony; and Interference with Official Acts, a simple misdemeanor. White also reportedly had a warrant through the Minnesota Department of Corrections for 1st Degree Burglary and Possession of a Dangerous Weapon.

Authorities say the other passenger, 29-year old Alicia Mae Dahl of Minneapolis, was charged with: 2nd Degree, a class D Felony; and Interference with Official Acts, a simple misdemeanor. Dahl reportedly also had two warrants out of Stearns County, Minnesota for Violation of Conditional Release and Failure to Appear.

Deputies say all three subjects were arrested and booked into the Osceola County Jail. Vasquez is being held on a $5-thousand bond, with White and Dahl each being held on a $3-thousand bond.

Osceola County authorities say the investigation is ongoing and additional charges are likely.

The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Sibley Ambulance, the Ocheyedan Ambulance, and the Iowa State Patrol.
