Three Taken To Hospital After Wednesday Accident

Rock Valley, Iowa — Three people were taken to an area hospital after a crash on Wednesday morning (September 19th) near Rock Valley.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office reports that 59-year-old Glenn Lowery of Ayr, Ontario, Canada was driving a 2014 Volvo semi‐tractor pulling a freight trailer southbound on Highway 18, approaching the eastbound curve at the intersection of Chestnut Avenue, six miles west of Rock Valley. They say 43-year-old Mary Stolpe of Le Mars was driving a 2000 Chevrolet Silverado pickup northbound on Chestnut Avenue. The deputy’s report says Stolpe failed to stop for the stop sign. Her vehicle entered the intersection and the vehicles collided. After the accident, the truck and trailer entered the east ditch and came to rest in a cornfield. The pickup entered the east ditch and rolled.

The Rock Valley Ambulance took Stolpe and two passengers in her pickup to the Hegg Health Hospital in Rock Valley.

The report says the Volvo truck sustained about $20,000 in damage. The pickup sustained about $10,000 in damage.

It says Stolpe was cited on a charge of failure to obey a stop sign.

The sheriff’s office says the Rock Valley Fire Department, Rock Valley Ambulance Squad, Rock Valley Police Department, and the Iowa Department of Transportation Motor Vehicle Enforcement assisted them with the response to the accident.
