Tractor Destroyed In Fire Near Hospers

Hospers, Iowa– A tractor was destroyed in a fire on Friday, February 9, 2018, near Hospers.

According to Hospers Fire Chief Jason Overmole, about 10:45 a.m., the Hospers Fire Department was called to the report of a tractor on fire at 4334 390th Street, a little over a mile and a half northwest of Hospers.

The chief says the fire department saw the tractor fully engulfed as they approached the scene. He says they put it out with water.

Overmole says no injuries were reported.

He says the operator told him that the tractor was sitting out near a building warming up. He came back out and it was starting on fire. He told the chief that it started as smoke around the battery box.

Chief Overmole reports that the 25-30-year-old tractor was totaled in the fire.

He says they used 750-1000 gallons of water to fight the fire, and crews were on scene for about an hour.
