Tractor Destroyed In Fire Near Melvin

Melvin, Iowa– A tractor was destroyed in a fire on Sunday, December 30, 2018 near Melvin.

According to Melvin Fire Chief Brennan Raveling, about 11:20 a.m., the Melvin Fire Department was called to the report of a shed fire on 230th Street near Melvin.

The chief says the fire department saw an older tractor on fire in a shed as they approached the scene. He says they used water to fight the fire, and were able to save the shed. In fact, he says the shed itself was undamaged.

Raveling says no injuries were reported.

He says the cause of the fire is undetermined but he believes it was probably electrical in nature.

Chief Raveling reports that the 1970’s era tractor was totaled in the blaze.

He says they used less than 1000 gallons of water to fight the fire, and the 17 firefighters who responded were on the scene for about an hour to an hour and a half.
