Sheldon, Iowa — A Tractor and hog barn both sustained damage in a fire that took place around 7:15 Friday evening, north of Sheldon.
Sheldon Assistant Fire Chief Randy Harms says when firefighters arrived at 2768 Highway 60, which is near the Ritter corner, the tractor was fully involved. Harms says that a hog barn next to the burning tractor also received damage in the fire. There were no hogs in the barn at the time of the blaze, according to Harms. He reports damage to the tractor, a 1994 John Deere 7800, was approximately $39-thousand, with about $10-thousand in damage to the hog barn.
He says the Ashton Fire Department responded to the fire, as well, after receiving a call from a passing motorist reporting the blaze.
Harms tells KIWA that personnel from the Sheldon Emergency Management Agency were dispatched to the scene for traffic control.
He reports that Sheldon firefighters were back in the station shortly after 8:45 pm.
