Two Injured In Sheldon Crash

Sheldon, Iowa — Two Hartley residents were taken to the hospital in the aftermath of a two-vehicle collision early Wednesday evening in Sheldon.

According to the accident report, about 5:45 Wednesday evening a 2013 Toyota Rav, driven by 47-year-old Billi Jae Swanson of Sheldon, was southbound on Country Club Road, and stopped at the stop sign at the intersection with Highway 18. Swanson then attempted to turn east onto Highway 18, and collided with an eastbound 1997 Ford Taurus, driven by 44-year-old Amanda Jane Hatey of Hartley.  Swanson reportedly told officers that she didn’t see Hatey’s car before she entered the intersection.

Hatey, along with a passenger in her car, 15-year-old Ben Douglass of Hartley, were transported by the Sheldon Community Ambulance Team to the Sanford Sheldon Medical Center, according to the report.

Police estimate damage to Swanson’s SUV at about $3 thousand, while Hatey’s car was totaled in the crash.

According to the accident report, Swanson was cited for Failure to Yield from a Stop Sign.
