Beloit House Fire Could Have Been Worse

Beloit, Iowa — A house fire on Tuesday, September 12, 2017 near Beloit, Iowa could have been a lot worse. That from the Canton, South Dakota fire chief, whose department covers that area.

According to Canton Fire Chief Kyle Lease, about 1:30 PM, the Canton Fire Department was called to the report of a house fire at 1263 260th Street, three miles east of Beloit on County Road A50, or about a mile and three-quarters south of Canton and three east.

The chief says that by the time they got there, the homeowner had the fire pretty much out. He says fire crews did some overhaul and made sure there was no fire anywhere that had gone undiscovered.

Lease says no injuries were reported.

He says that when they have a structure fire, they have an automatic policy that the two closest fire departments are called to help, so the Fairview, South Dakota and Inwood, Iowa fire departments were paged as well.

He says the cause of the fire is undetermined at this time and is under investigation.

Chief Lease reports that there was minimal damage.

He says they used very little water to fight the fire, and crews were on scene for about an hour.
