Bids Received For New Sheldon Hangar

Sheldon Airport 3Sheldon, Iowa — Bids were opened and reviewed Friday morning by the Sheldon Airport Commission for replacement of the hangar destroyed by high winds last June at the Sheldon Regional Airport.

This is the second bid letting by the Airport Commission, with all earlier bids being rejected for coming in too high.  This time, the Airport Commission approved the low bid of Schaus-Vorhies Companies of Fairfield, Iowa.  Schaus-Vorhies low bid came in at $439, 543, still above the Engineer’s Estimate of $364,025.

The building itself came in as a bid of $412,836.  Additions included: Insulation and vapor blocking in the hangar’s ceiling, $4,674; Wall paneling, $6,687; Roof drainage (gutters and downspouts), $10,110; Walk-in doors in the bi-fold door, $5,236.  The Commission prioritized the additions as follows:  #1, Ceiling insulation and vapor block in the ceiling; #2 Walk-in doors; #3 Roof Drainage; #4 Wall Paneling.

The Sheldon Airport Commission will present the bids and their recommendation to the Sheldon City Council for final approval at the next council meeting.
