City To Break Ground For Event Center

Events Center 8Sheldon, Iowa — Although dirt work at the project site has been taking place for about a week now, the official groundbreaking for the new Sheldon Community Event Center will be held Thursday (June 16th) morning at 10:30 at the site of the structure, which will be located just south of Sheldon’s Holiday Inn Express.

The City of Sheldon has received a Vision Iowa Grant to assist with construction costs for the $5.3-million dollar facility, along with numerous construction and operating cost pledges from private donors, including a pair of half-million dollar donations from the Arlan Van Wyk Family, and Sanford Sheldon.

Thursday’s Groundbreaking Ceremony will begin with a welcome from Sheldon City Manager Scott Wynja.  Mayor Katricia Meendering will speak on behalf of the City of Sheldon, with Iowa State Senator Randy Feenstra speaking on behalf of the State of Iowa.  Dave Van Wyk will address the crowd on behalf of the Van Wyk Family, with SCDC President Rick Nordahl speaking on behalf of the Sheldon Chamber & Development Corporation.

Following the remarks, ground will officially be broken for the new facility.

City Manager Scott Wynja has asked that those attending the ceremony park in Holiday Inn Express parking lot and walk to the south side of the hotel, where the ceremony will be held.

If you can’t be there in person, tune in to KIWA-FM 105.3 at 10:30 Thursday morning.  We’ll broadcast the groundbreaking ceremony, live, in it’s entirety.  That’s KIWA-FM, 105.3
